Adult Life after a Traumatic Brain Injury
Hi, My name is Dawn and I am an RN. Just over two years ago I received a work related injury. This injury has left me with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Even though two years have passed, I still suffer with lingering tbi symptoms. I have some issues with memory. Some things I remember with no problems, other things I just don't remember and I can't explain why... I also suffer with issues related to mood dis-regulation. I can be angry at times and not understand why or end up having explosive outbursts. This has greatly impacted my life. I still work but no longer with patients. Also, this has been a huge turn around for my family. I'm no longer the mom who has everything under control. I used to work full time, manage my kids' schedules, pay household bills, and keep my house clean. Now I struggle to remember to brush my hair before leaving for work. My husband pays the bills and my kids write their schedules on a large calendar (that hangs in our dining room) so I can visually be reminded where they are and what they are doing. I am a "new" me and I never would have imagined this journey for myself.
I know there are things out there for youth that suffer from concussion/tbi, but I don't always find a lot of discussion/support for adults, like myself. I get up every day and work to live my life to its fullest. If you would like to know more about my life and journey, you can listen to a podcast that I did with my family. Its called "Terrible, Thanks For Asking". We're season 1, episode 5. Its brutally honest. If any of this rings true to your life please join this discussion with me. Thanks for your time!

Adult life after TBI. Wow, emotional train wreck here, TBI is recent and extreme. No sense of smell, massive tinnitus and vibrational head noise. Blood coming from sinuses like coagulated jelly. I've considered going back to emergency at times. Best thing to do is try hard to be an adult father of 5, I've an overwhelming love for my family, if it wasn't for them I'd of given up already. Trying to see myself as lucky, they we're considering the removal of my life support whilst unresponsively comatose. I survived trauma, now to survive adulthood brain damaged. I share your faith, strength and love, God bless you all.

3 Reactions@danieltbi Its very hard to stay positive at times after struggling since 2005 with a TBI I have shared with you, from numerous blows to the head which caused seizures. I have become use to the tinnitus but after Covid have struggled with sinus which is apparently called Long Covid. I am about to start a Viral Cleanse with 3 different tincture's. I am still on Keto which I started in Jan 2023 which did not stop the seizures but it helped a few other issues regarding inflammation. My friend told me it seemed to help the seizures even though they did not stop. I have researched the newer Epilepsy drugs after my seizures were exacerbated by the older drugs over an 8 year period until I stopped all meds myself in 2012. The newer drugs are just added to the older ones so I will not start them. I am going to look into Dr Charlie Teo who was stopped from working in Australia because he did not stick to conventional medicine.

1 Reaction@laura1961 Things for me are on the tragic scale. I lost my emotional shield today, major melt down. In a constant massive feeling of doom. My Narcissistic X is creating as much family division as she can, to the point of destroying parts of their lives. She's the one who caused my TBI coma, massive abdominal bleed and brain damage. Narcissists will create death experience for anyone they are losing control over. It was her X that tried to murder me, those two are like 2 cats with a mouse, I was the mouse. Now she's targeting my children against me of which are not her children. This is very difficult to handle along with horrific brain injury. Doom by psychopath Narcissists.
Has anyone had any experience with Zoloft at the 200 mg level which is the max I will be taking and encountered mobility issues I was out walking today and suddenly I couldn't walk any further my muscles just gave out I have a feeling 200 mg is too much for me but would be interested to know if anyone else has encountered this issue
