Hardly any sputum today. Plus a question

Posted by grammyvictoria @grammyvictoria, Sep 9 8:55pm

If you hit a day where there's hardly any sputum to get rid of, do you think maybe its because you did a really good job the day before? Yesterday (and maybe the day before) I think I did a good job -- Still learning, experimenting, and its' a pretty new discovery to get my lungs in all different positions for nebulizing and aerobika-- anyway I think I did a good one. Today there was little to get out.
Do others find that to be true?

Also, maybe a dumb question but, when you say "Airway clearance" are you using that term to mean your Neb and aerobica and huff cough process?

Maybe you need new cups? They need replacing every 6 months or less. But also I use the sprint cups and quite alot of saline mist is produced with them.

@irenea8
Thanks Irene. So the mist is common for you also. I am using a new cup and like you, I replace as recommended.

If I use my nebulizer wo the Aerobika there is no pressure and the saline sprays out too much. Sorry, I don’t know enough to explain it well. I will try to find a you tube Video. Dr McShane said to Neb bf using the Aerobika. I’m not sure how.

@jessed Hi, I ordered two aeroclipse cups because some people do the aerobika combined with the nebulizer. Lousy experience. I felt it was a ton more effort and made me feel short of breath. And anyway, Dr. McShane said on one video that she does not endorse doing the Aerobika at the same time with the nebulizer. I don't like the aeroclipse (minus the Aerobika) either for that matter. The process is longer and while the mist is finer, I get too impatient. I'm going back to the Pari cups.

Thanks Liz, I guess I will stay using the Pari like you are separate from Aerobika.

At first it felt strange not using Aerobika w nebulizer bc I’ve done it together for last 10 years.
Sometimes I wish several of us could FaceTime webinar while we are doing our stuff to compare how we each stay healthy.

@jessed the aeroclipse xl ban reusable cups have a breath actuated mode. You can use with or without the Aerobika. The cups work so the saline or meds only come out when you breath in. This might help with the saline misting you’ve been experiencing.

@jessed What a great idea. If there were more of us in a given geographic area, it would be so great to have a bronch club meet.

@grammievictoria: Just curious, 3 days ago you had a really good day with hardly any sputum. Did it build up again, or are you still enjoying a respite? Are you on Brinsupri? Sometimes I dread doing my neb therapy because I know it's going to start the cycle of coughing and sputum movement - i.e. the work of clearing mucus.

@ursala7 Liz, If we have a virtual Bronch club meet, we could live anywhere. I can dream, but organizing a virtual meet up is above my grade level. I live in Nashville, TN. how about you? Best, jessed

@ursala7 I also have to lay back in my recliner to get sputum up. It makes timing hard because I have to wait several hours after eating/drinking to lay back, due to reflux. I don't take Musinex-- it seemed to plug me up rather than helping me out.

@letsjustbreathe So, do you produce a lot of mucus when you lay back? I can only get dime size kind of thick splotches out and its quite get like, even with the mucinex. Frustrating.!
