Newly diagnosed with PMR- concerns about vaccine reactions?
I have been diagnosed with PMR in Aug 2026. Currently on 20 mg prednisone (and in honeymoon period?).
I have always tolerated vaccinations (Covid, flu etc) well only experiencing mild side effects for a day or two. Sometimes I experience mild exhaustion and fatigue 12-14 days later.
Now that I am dealing with PMR , am I at risk for heightened side effects from vaccinations? What have been your experiences- particularly if side effects were non- problematic prior to onset of PMR?
thank you

@kjoed53 I think you somehow misunderstood what I said. I said I talked to a woman who had a bad reaction to a tetanus shot and was on a ventilator. Of course she was told this by a Dr, as her condition was life threatening. I also said it was second hand, of course, but that I had heard similar stories. By the way, I have learned a lot from nurses, PA’s, Nurse Practitioners, and technicians. A lot of these people have worked in their area for a long time and are very knowledgeable and helpful. I consider them health care professionals and am always glad to hear their input and expertise. They have much to offer.

I have no doubt that all of those professionals have great insight and a wealth of knowledge and experience, but they can also offer opinions the same as anyone else. Opinions can be based on that insight, knowledge and experience but that doesn't make it factual every time. Even doctors can be wrong. It can be extremely difficult to prove or disprove the cause of many of our maladies, including PMR. That doesn't stop someone from giving their opinion, and by no means am I saying that it should. This forum is open for discussion and that's what we do here every day. Thank you for your input.
My input seems to have bothered you somehow, not sure why. I understand the concept of an open forum, and what we do here everyday, but perhaps I should just read and keep my input to myself. Since I already knew everything you said I guess the point was the lecture. And thanks for the heads up about even Drs can be wrong. I had no idea. Thank you for setting me straight about this forum,
I have the same concern, but suggest talking to your rheumatologist. I have different reactions to different vaccines and have tended to space them out over time. As an example, flu shot, covid and pneumonia spread out over a couple months vs all together to avoid a spike in stimulating my immune system all at once. My doctor told me that there is research on-going, but sadly not a lot of funding going into studying PMR.

I'm sorry that I had the audacity to disagree with you on anything. The fact that this forum welcomes the sharing of opinions that may differ from someone else's must have come as a shock to you.

1 Reaction@kjoed53 I get it. You’re one of those people. I didn’t disagree with anything you said, in fact you said the same thing I did, you just threw in a lot of unnecessary words. Laughing, it would take a bit more to shock me, and actually it would also have to be true. Have a nice day and thanks for starting mine with a laugh!
@shelleyletts
You took offense to my comment, so laugh it off and move on
@shelleyletts pharmacists too!! I learned a lot about the titration of certain drugs and its effects on the body! Such an under utilized resource if you ask me!
@potterywoman
I got a pneumonia shot and a couple of weeks later I had PMR. Doctor started me on 25 mg of prednisone each day for a week, then 20 daily for a week till I got down to 5 mg. I finished about 3 weeks ago and I am starting to get symptoms again.

2 Reactions@kjoed53 ok. I never disagreed with you on anything, so I guess we will have to agree to——-agree. I am not now nor have I ever been offended. Offended people usually don’t laugh about it, so how can I be? You can’t possibly offend me in anyway. I really do hope you have a nice day and can recover from this.
