Experience with a psychopharmacologist?
Does anyone have experience with a psychopharmacologist? I have been taking SSRIs for decades, with mostly decent results, but I have found that the side effects have become intolerable for me, so I am looking around to see what I can do to change things.
As an aside, I am also looking into CBD, Ketamine, Psilocybin, and other ideas.

@stephiejoon yes very helpful. Zoloft is no solving my morning problem. I am also on quetiapine for anxiety but that turns me into a zombie. I am recovering from a brain injury. Too.oo0

I'm sorry for you ate going through. I'm hoping through each of our journeys we find relief and share with the community which will hopefully help many of us. You are hot alone. Please know that. I am struggling too...
I have chronic fragmented sleep, waking 3-4 times a night. I’m already on Seroquel 300 mgs and trazadone 150 mgs. Trazadone works at first but after a year or two poops out.
I also take 2 morning antidepressants which I think has worked pretty well.
I have had insomnia issues my whole life, since age 12. I am now a healthy 70 year old woman. I just don’t know where to turn to next. I have tried almost every sleep med there is.
thank you for all the comments.
It doesnt look like many people here have spoken to a psychopharmcologist or tried CBD.
I was on Paxil but have decided to switch to Lexapro.
The road from 25 to 5mg wasnt easy but I made it while starting Lexapro at 5mg and then 10mg which I am on now. However, going down to 2.5mg and/or off the Paxil has NOT been easy and I really have not felt well. Yesterday I went back up to 5mg Paxil and it was a little better.
I hate feeling like my life is on pause while I go through this. I have cancelled trips, receded into my safe little bubble. I am single and a part of me wants to me someone but when you are depressed and anxious it is NOT easy to do. No feelings of desire and too many worries.

3 Reactions@j7653 If I didn't already, let me say "welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect"! You have had a variety of responses from members who share their own experiences. It's really great to see how we have connection and can feel comfortable telling what works for us.
It's certainly not unusual for a medication we take for a long time, no matter what the reason, to become less effective. Our body adjusts to it, and the efficacy of it declines! I myself have been on citalopram for several years now, a low dose to be sure. Am I certain it is still doing its job? That's a tough call. There are many other factors playing into my situation, so how do I pick if there is a problem with the citalopram?
I have added CBD to my routine when I feel it is necessary. It's not an everyday thing, but it is there if I feel the need.

I really miss taking cannabis gummies for help with sleep, ever since I tried Paxil earlier this year for a short time I’m feeling so changed, going through serotonin withdrawal was and still is very disturbing, I don’t know how I got through it but I’m so changed. I don’t take many meds because to be honest I’m phobic about them, I’ve been this way most of my life. I started trying cannabis in my early thirties, it was all around me being a child of the sixties but my fear of drugs stopped me from experimenting with the popular drugs that many friends were using. I can’t take cannabis anymore because I react badly to it even the tiniest amount. The only drug I have been taking for over 25 years is Ativan and even with all the bad publicity it gets I still rely on it, my concern is that if it turns against me what will happen to me, I am just too old and weary to go through another rollercoaster of bad symptoms and side effects. I really respect the strength and stamina some people have gone through to find the best medicine to help them!
