How to deal with aging anxiety?
The last few years have been hard with multiple surgeries, now recovered, but ongoing pain. The loss of friends recently as they passed and the worrying about how the road feels like it’s getting so much shorter. constantly worrying about the process of dying. trying to stay grateful for today but sometimes the anxiety feels overwhelming especially as I see our country chance for worse and worry about the world for my grandchildren.

You are so right! Consider other people's feelings. We are all different and going through many difficult issues or we usually wouldn't be here. It's so nice to have a place to come and share our thoughts with others. People should just remember to be polite like you suggested!

3 ReactionsMy, My, My!! This is getting steamy and I seem to have struck several nerves. I hope no one is seriously being mean, however... Promise?...Okay no offence taken. Hopefully we are all free here to express opinions and not be put down. I have a lot in common with some of you that go to these Death Cafes having had severe Neuropathy for over five years, in addition to other very hard to deal with medical issues but I approach life in a way that doesn't lead off with death and dying. My family has always dealt with and talked about sensitive issues as a practice and there is no need to have a separate place to go talk about death...how about at the dinner table: we decided music for my funeral there one night. Then we talked and made a big fuss over the new baby, heard about new jobs and whatever else came up. Would I like to go to one? What for?
@judyingenes My father role-modelled good behaviour, controlled behaviour, directed behaviour all his life. As a mining superintendent, he had to show leadership in thought, word, and deed (thanks Bishop Cranmer). He never passed a fault, not for long, and not without careful forethought about how he would broach the subject. But, we would gather in the living room, each seated, and my dad or my mom would introduce a subject, whether a problem or an idea of a future undertaking, and we would discuss it. Everyone had an opportunity to speak and give their opinions, but the subject was 'hashed out' thoroughly, sometimes over two mor more hours.
Nothing was off the table. Some of those discussions were intense of necessity. There was often emotion. It wasn't always easy. But we got it done, and there were long memories involved, especially my Dad's, which was prodigious.
We learned that negotiation was important, and so was the use of language. We learned to think carefully, to choose words carefully, and to listen. This is what all good communicators do, and we did it several times each year. It was important.

3 ReactionsIn my 74th year and if there is something I have learned, it is better to keep one’s mouth shut at times than to open it and show how ill -informed you are.

2 Reactions@gloaming Your father was a wonderful parent to you. That is the best way to bring up children in my book. We are like that too, but perhaps in a more casual way. We have dear friends over for dinner, at times, and certain subjects would come up which would sometimes make them squirm in their seats. We would get thanks from them, maybe weeks later, for showing them how to talk about things in a normal way.

I'm sorry you are having such difficulties. I have to say that I would not appreciate a thoughtless answer like your doctor's. It feels lazy to simply say it has to do with aging. May I ask how old you are?

3 ReactionsI feel that way som etime I don't have an answer for you except the old cliche if taking it one day at a time. It is difficult to do if you are very anxious. Do you take any medications that help with anxiety? I know a lot of people don't kike to rely on them but if it helps you to live one day at a time it might be worthwhile. If you have a doctor that you can talk about this issue, they might suggest something so you can be less anxious.
