Check in--cheerleaders wanted
I am trying to force myself to exercise because I need it for my osteoporosis and I am finding myself getting perceptibly weaker as I age. I'm not at all sedentary; I probably walk 2-3 miles per day just getting around and do lots of household stuff as guardian of a 6 year old and 16 year old, and I'm an elementary school teacher during the year on my feet all day. While that was fine when I was younger, my body is telling me that I need to be more systematic now. I want to keep being able to do the things I love, and exercise is clearly one of the ways to do that, but I hate it.
I want to start this thread as a place to check in with the things we find hard--exercise, nutrition, human relations, whatever--and a place to cheer each other on.

How many monthly doses of Evenity have you had so far? Did you take any osteoporosis medication between teriparatide and Evenity?
you rock, far from sedentary! Hey, I have done EVERYTHING right my entire life to avoid bad bones ( daily weight workouts, condtantly walking & carrying things as a New Yorker, clean diet,no alcohol, no drugs prescribed or otherwise, no porosis in my family history, etc…& my bones are still turning to dust according to Dexa results. Don’t beat yourself up for what you haven’t done, just add a few small changes along the way & be proud of yourself for your best effort!
STRESS of feeling guilty isn’t helping anybody…nobody knows the exact right answers

Hi, I am a 62 year old recently retired and have been diagnosed with severe osteoperosis of the spine and apparently I have osteopenia of the femoral neck...booo to both.
I get the feels about not liking exercise, that is why I do what I do like...treadmill walking/easy jog interals, stationary bike for cardio, hand weights, kettle bell for RDLs/squats, jumping from a step,, etc. I change up the things I do REGULARLY as I get bored easily. Typically I see a reel on Instagram that looks enjoyable and beneficial, and incorporate into a rotating routine of sorts (I'm not good with too much repetition of routine). Brick House Bones with Dr. Lisa Moore, DPT is a great resource that I recently started a journey with.
For me, it's habit stacking and having the leisure time to do what I like.
@janism It is a challenge to find the time to keep up the exercise. I read the idea of "exercise snacks" in The New York Times and that has helped me some. Here are some examples:
- I do heel drops while brushing my teeth. Alternate with balancing on one foot. Yes, I used to sometimes dribble a little toothpaste foam on myself, but very rarely now as I have gotten better .
- I keep a strong canvass carry bag handy with about 35 lbs of weight in it (you can use water-filled strong juice bottles for weight). Pick up with one hand and walk the length of the house or around the room once in a while. Great for core strength as you are unevenly weighted. This is called "suitcase carry" in exercise parlance.
- In my car I set my drivers seat to be very upright. Then I lower the seat back about 2.5 inches and hold myself upright with my core as I drive. Keep back straight and you will be amazed how much ab strength you use pulling out from a stop sign. I cannot focus enough to do this as a passenger, only when I am driving.
- Example that did not work for me was keeping a pair of 5 lb dumbbells by the TV. I only watch stuff that I really like, turning off the set if I do not have anything really good, and the dumbbells mess up my focus on the great content. But if you are casually watching the news or sports then this *sounds* like a good idea.
