Has anyone taken Ciprofloxacin for pseudomonas? How did it go?

Sorry one last question! Do you use Colistin without a break? Usually it is one month on and one month off or rotate with a different nebulized every other month. Any exacerbations while on it?

@irenea8 - My Pulmonologist has had me on the Colistin without a break. My MAC seems to not be progressing as of now and it was his intention to take me off the Colistin if we had to start MAC antibiotic therapy. In the meantime, he does not anticipate any change in the Colistin regimen.

Good morning . I had both a sinus and lung infection from Pseudomonas….both were identified by cultures . I was under the care of Infectious Disease group here close to me . The Dr who treated me said she would normally treat with oral Cipro . However because I have history of a PAU (penetrating aortic ulcer )due to plaque build up in the Aorta that Cipro could play havoc with my arteries . So she decided to treat me IV med . This was 2 different treatments , one for 14 days and the second for 21 days.
Now my ENT Dr is having me do sinus rinses with a compound antibiotic of 3 different antibiotics. I have pus build up again in the left maxillary sinus which would eventually come to infection. Cipro is one of the 3 antibiotics in the rinse .it comes in capsules and I put one capsule contents in the saline rinse water that’s in the rinse bottle. He says I should not obsorb hardly any of the Cipro into my system, bloodstream that would have an affect on my arteries .I brought up a sputum from the lung in April and lab work showed Moderate Pseudomonas colonized .so I intend to go back to the Infectious Disease Dr to see if there is a way to eradicate Pseudomonas ! @ja24 Hi Jeannie, How long of a time period does your Dr want you on Colistin? Is it a long-term maintenance drug approach to tamping it down? Thanks for any help/answers. I would imagine that nebulizing an antibiotic would have less impact on the body and be more directed to the lung. Any insight?

I have been on the Colistin for over a year now. He has kept me on it for maintenance and it seems to be working. With the pseudomonas being colonized, there does not seem to be a possibility of eradicating it so this seems to be the next best thing. He was going to take me off of it had I needed to go on MAC therapy but that seems to be rather stable right now. Nebulizing the Colistin is definitely the best route and luckily there does not seem to be any side effects!!! I have had good results and am thankful for this medicine.

I also took Cipro but had to stop after 7 days; I started experiencing numbness in both hands—my fingers went numb. I was able to recover quickly, though. I was supposed to take Cipro for 15 days for Pseudomonas. Never again

I took Cipro for a different infection. Had to stop after a short time due to tendon damage from the Cipro. Tendon damage can be a side effect of Cipro unfortunately. Roz

I have and had severe tendonitis from it. I stopped taking it and the Dr prescribed levofloxacin which is in the same family as cipro. It also caused the severe tendonitis and is the reason I left that Dr for good.
