Treatments for Osteoporosis

@gravity3 , thanks Gravity! 11 months on Tymlos (plus the nutrition, exercise, supplements changes) got me from -2.2 total spine to -1.5. I know femoral neck is the slowest/hardest area to change and it wasn't moving much, so i started new leg stomping exercises about 5 months ago. Femoral neck went from -2.6 and -2.7 to -2.4 a few days ago. On Tymlos, my worst part of the spine, L-4 went from -3.3 to -1.8.
I feel like i have a part time job doing the exercise, nutrition and becoming educated about the condition, but I am blessed to be able to do so. My bones at 62 were at the level of an 80 year old, and I was very scared. If only I was educated about this in my 40's when i was diagnosed with osteopenia, and the Dr just shrugged and said, "Yeah, that will happen as you age...." I plan to stay on Tymlos for the full 2 years, and try like heck to get back to normal bone density in that time. That's why I'll keep trying to get the level up to 6 clicks or higher. We'll see! Are you on Tymlos too?

No tymlos but I did take alendronate, forteo, evenity and Prolia in my long and confusing/frustrating "career" of osteoporosis.....it is like another job.
So glad you are doing so well.

@gravity3 Wow, that's a lot of drugs! which one gave you the best results? Worst side effects?

My doctor feels I may need Prolia but I am waiting for next dexa scan in 2028

Why Prolia? Have you taken other drugs? Mind me asking what your dexa scores are.
You have lots of time to do your own research on various drugs and sequencing... which is quite important.

I was on Fozamax for 4 years

My scores were: spine T-score 0.5
Hips: t-score -1.5[bmd of right femoral neck measures 0.825g/cm2
I really don’t understand these #s

I had a DEX scan with the results being -1.3 and -1.7. However, my spine doctor at the Mayo Clinic said I have osteoporosis. He uses a.HOUN score that you get from a CT scan. That showed what I was at 77 and I should be over 100. I’m now on Evenity and have two more treatments to finish my year. Next month, I will have another CT scan to see if it’s improved enough to have my fusion surgery.

I was surprised that how many doctors had never heard of the HOUN score. I was certain I had osteopenia and was so surprised to find out I had osteoporosis.
