I had a DEX scan with the results being -1.3 and -1.7. However, my spine doctor at the Mayo Clinic said I have osteoporosis. He uses a.HOUN score that you get from a CT scan. That showed what I was at 77 and I should be over 100. I’m now on Evenity and have two more treatments to finish my year. Next month, I will have another CT scan to see if it’s improved enough to have my fusion surgery.

I was surprised that how many doctors had never heard of the HOUN score. I was certain I had osteopenia and was so surprised to find out I had osteoporosis.

Thank you for this information about the HOUN testing. I found a piece of clinical research and I am posting it below. Makes me wonder why dexa is still considered the "gold standard"
