Is 81 year old too old for ablation?

I'm an 81 year old female who had an ablation 11 years ago. Now having problems with being out of rhythm. I am on 200 mg of Amiodorone daily. It helps sometimes but not always. Are there others who are in similar situation--perhaps that did get an ablation? What was your experience following this procedure? Thanks.

@stan52 Hello! To clarify, I'm not in Charlotte. Just couldn't come up with another name. I live in Arizona and go to Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. I will be having my ablation for PVCs on 9/29. I have had surgery before, but nothing like this! I'm nervous about it as well. Let me know how you do and I'll do the same. Hopefully, we will both be better than before the surgery and able to do whatever we want.

Thanks for the prompt reply. My EP was optimistic and said if you have to have a heart issue this is the one to have. I’m a newbie to surgery and just like you want to be done with it. I’ll report back after the 9-8 ablation. Are you having a device installed to notify your cell phone if you have a problem?

My dad had bypass surgery when he was 84. The surgeon told us he was giving him 10 more years and he did. He was fast and did not use the bypass machine as he said he did not like affecting peoples brains using it. Since no bypass machine is needed for an ablation, my guess would be you will be great!

@stan52 - I'm not sure who you were addressing your question to. Nothing has been mentioned thus far about having a device on my phone. Sounds interesting though.

I posted to this thread before, but as of my last appointment with the elctrophyiolgist team at UC Health I am now fully approved for another PFA. Just waiting for the call to set up the appointment. Will most likely be in late September or early October which is after my birthday when I will become 87 years of age.

My mother had cardiac ablation when she was 91, and had absolutely no problems whatsoever. She lived for seven more years - and her cause of death was not heart-related.

@gb76 Thanks for your example of how age should not, in and of itself, be a determinant of one's suitability for any procedure. And I'll bet you were most grateful for those extra years of reminiscences, stories, history, laughter, and shared meals.
