Anyone else experience Weight Gain with long COVID?

Posted by RMS @rinadbq, Oct 8, 2021

I have had ~30 pound weight gain since November 2020 when I initially had COVID. It seems disproportionate to my calorie intake. Any one else with this?

I also could not get rid of the weight I gained during the time I could hardly move with Long COVID but am able to walk about 2/3 of a mile now so at least no gaining any more. I have been experimenting with Lysine to help inhibit my histamine and clear my itchy skin...and my belly is noticeably shrinking. I have not gotten on the scale but it does seem to minimize visceral fat for me.

@vostie a DAO enzyme before every meal also helps with the hystamine response! Am gonna try your lysine trick.

Wow, for years my doctors have been treating me like I was the problem. Now that I'm reading everyone's posts with exactly my probs, I see that the one COVID VAX and three times I had Covid did a number on my body. But especially after the vax. Night and day, two different people. I'm going to read all of your posts to see if there are any suggestions. I hate the brain fog, the muscle loss, the out of nowhere fatigue in my work days that sends me crawling to bed, the sensitivity to caffeine and sugar, the overnight 30 pound weight gain, the fluctuating and climbing Hemacrotit and Hemaglobin, overnight I got a condition called Epischleritis in my eyes and when I told my opthamoligist, he said that there was no certainty it was from the vax. Well I'm certain. And the place where the vaccine was shot into my arm has had a constant scab since 2021. 5 years! Iron supplements have truly helped some of it, especially the brain fog, as have DAO enzymes for my f'ed up digestion/elimination. But hearing that so many people got this after covid, and to still be villified by the general public for stating my case about my health, as if to criticize the vax is either Maga... is pure cultish insanity. My dad who was pretty healthy with a slight murmur dropped dead from being brainwashed like that and getting every covid vax and booster.

The long term covid clinic thru aurora said this is a problem. Mine was 40. They told me to stop fretting. It must plateau for 3 months and be stable. Then you can work on losing it. Mine is not coming off! It also left me with edema, shortness of breath and fatigue. I have an inhaler( never had one before) lots of damage from the weight gain and muscle loss. No one pinpoint the edema.

@www3 same problem here post Covid six years. I have gained at least 40 pounds and have extreme difficulty losing it. I have tried keto often on and can lose a pound or two but then plateau. I have been able to lose 12 pounds so far but very slowly. I still have intermittent breathlessness, pounding heartbeat, fatigue, and exercise malaise so getting the weight off has been extremely difficult.

@acfilms Just FYI- I have long covid and got 3 vaccines.. I was literally on line to get the first one the second it was available. I had 2 boosters after that, and after a bout with Covid (in between the 1st and 2nd booster) most of my symptoms started, after the second booster they went into overdrive..I believe the vaccines saved many lives. I also believe because of the way they rushed the production and introduction of the vaccines onto the public, many people, myself included were in some ways harmed by the vaccines. They called it "operation warp speed".. who knows what they skipped over to get the shots done. I have no regrets, I believe I made the best decision possible at the time, however I also believe I am left worse after that 3rd shot. There does not seem to be a right for everyone or wrong for everyone scenario with this. It was a brand new virus and vaccine and no one could have known all the risks.

I live a very healthy lifestyle and had maintained my weight and physical fitness for years prior to first getting Covid in the very early years and then getting the Covid vax in February of 2021. Within one week of the 2nd shot my weight started to climb, I suddenly became peri-menopausal and I had a rapid breakdown in muscle mass, unable to workout due to fatigue, severe reactive hypoglycemia and low body temperature and edema of my hands and feet. 4 years later, I can’t shake this 40lbs using any type of weight loss method, and I’m just now having the energy to do more intense workouts out again. I don’t know my body anymore and it’s in a constant state of inflammation. My hsCRP and homocysteine levels are high, despite a healthy diet and daily exercise.
I 100% blame the shot for my body becoming unhealthy and completely foreign to me. And nobody has the answers and they refuse to believe that it’s the shot that caused this.
People who know me and who have knowledges of health and wellness and work in the same field know that they only thing that changed for me was the vaccination. If I could go back and do it all over again, I would never have gotten the shots.

@lulu21 exact same feeling. Wrecked my life, my health, whose body is this? Too young to feel this way, look this way. Constant inflammation, fatigue, fog, muscle loss, weight gain. Fuck that vaccine.

@vostie I can empathize. I used to run every morning and also did weight training. I have gained 40 pounds. I feel like sh&t. I want to get out and walk, but I am fearful of the next day and what happens when I overexert myself. It is infuriating.

@acfilms I chose not to get the vaccine due to my mistrust of the FDA. I have never gotten a flu vaccine. The only shots I got were MMR when I was a kid and that was my parent's choice. I did get a tetanus shot recently due to stepping on a door tack. Regardless, there is research going on. The issue is that this virus is infiltrating the immune system and I believe, causing our bodies to fight with itself. The fatigue, malaise, brain fog, GI issues, and on and on... I am going to try Iron supplements and see if it helps with my brain fog. At this point, I am trying a lot of suggestions. The doctors treat the symptoms because they are also stumped. Hang in there.

The Iron Supplements have helped me soooooo much. Also creatine. Nicotine patches worked for a while. Am on to high dose of Lysine but only at night (2000mg) as it knocks me out, which is good because sleep issues are part of this deal. I have to take all my minerals at night as well. Doctors seem downright disinterested. Thanks for the relating, it helps. And do a liposomal iron for sure.

@jgk177 I never got the shot, my partner who is an LPN did. Within a week of getting the first shot he gets covid after not being sick for 5 years. I have had covid 8 times. Here is the thing nobody can explain: there are two different types of spike proteins, natural immunity and shot proteins. I had an immunity test done and drs insisting I must have gotten the vaccine. Nope, definitely not. I already have a neurological disorder and it was decided it was not a good idea. All I can think is that I got partner's spike proteins somehow...what's this now?! Sneaky herd immunity?!
