Experience with National Jewish Health?
Has anyone been to national jewish health that can share there experiences? My dr is recommending a visit to them but I live in wa state so would be quite a journey. I’ve been dealing with mac for 4 plus years. Taking azithromyacin and ethambutol. Couldn’t tolerate the big 3. Also on clophazamine and nebulizer and airway clearance 2 times day. I’m not really sure what else can be done but would love any input.

@Cathln I have never used oxygen but between the elevation and cold weather I endured last time when my lung collapsed makes me nervous to fly. However, I will fly if NJH and my local Pulmonologist think it is alright. I go back to NJH in early November so I will monitor the weather for sure. I live in Florida so to drive there would be tough.
I really hope you can make the trip because as you already know NJH is the best.
I’m going back to Njh in Sept for my second appt. I was impressed by everyone there last time!! I had 2 different doctors who had been the subject of single negative comments on this forum, and I found both of them to be excellent! People react to doctors differently depending on their own personal needs and opinions.
My primary doctor there was “my type of doctor”: friendly and nice, but more importantly thorough and answered ALL of my questions. He was not in a hurry.
I also loved the gastro doctor I saw. Also friendly and very inquisitive when I answered his questions, and would follow up with more questions. He too was not in a hurry either, and spent time until we had covered everything. Plus he had a great sense of humor, which I appreciated!
So my point is that doctors and patients have all sorts of different personalities, so I would just go with an open mind.

5 ReactionsI’ve also had very positive experiences at NJH—I was a patient there 2000-2016. Good luck!
There are a number of excellent Bronch/NTM care centers. Maybe you may wish to consider one closer to where you live, particularly one not at altitude?
