Paroxetine (Paxil) for anxiety, OCD tendencies

Posted by glorvalentin @glorvalentin, 3 days ago

I’m on 20’mg of paroxiteen for over 10 years I don’t feel it does anything for my anxiety at all. I also had some OCD tendencies. It slowly went away but I don’t think it was the meds. It stunts your emotions so you never cry. So I want to try and go off to see if I really needed it how to proceed

As a rule, going off a medication without your doctor's knowledge/input/permission can be very dangerous.

I knew someone who was bipolar and decided that she felt well enough to stop taking her meds.

Long story short, she ended up in a state mental hospital, but not before she wreaked havoc on a lot of people, myself included.

Please confer with your doctor.

I absolutely agree with Scott, this medication is reputed to be very difficult to stop and I speak from experience. I didn’t even take Peroxitine for very long because I’m sensitive to medication so my dose was low, my doctor felt that a short taper would be enough but it wasn’t, I went into serotonin withdrawal syndrome and it was pure agony. I didn’t adjust well to this medication and I had terrible side effects, to be honest I don’t do well with this medication and I learned that Peroxitine is a hard drug to stop. I would also recommend that you get your prescribing doctor to help you with this, you will definitely need another medication to help you deal with the withdrawal, best wishes.

For sure, work with your doctor. Is paroxetine marketed as Paxil? If so, I quit taking it years ago, without any major problems, just a few minor brain pings occasionally. It's different for everyone. So best not to be too scared.

It is best to talk to your psychiatrist about this. DO NOT go off your medication alone. It can be dangerous.

Since I stopped Peroxitine about 6 months ago I started having brain zaps through the night and early morning, it usually eases when I get up, they just won’t go away and I’m frustrated with it!
