Has anyone started on or ever used the IV antibiotic infusions?

My pulmonologist at Stanford suggested I consider starting on the IV infusion therapy. I’m really scared and wondering if anyone has done this treatment before.
BE for about 15 years. About 8 years ago a sputum sample found MAC so I went on the 3 antibiotics for 1 yr. Cleared it up but then M abscesses showed up. I have been nebulizing, airway clearance and on the new FDA approved Brinsupri for the past year. It has reduced my flare up during this year but in July I had a really bad flare up lasting about 6-8 weeks and it took 4 different antibiotics to clear me up. Now they want me to consider the IV therapy everyday for a yr. I’m really nervous about this and wondering if anyone can give me their experiences, input, help…anything, please! Thank you so much!

@rpec
Are they treating Pseudomonas? Which antibiotic only required once a day?? Which antibiotics have you done via IV?

@irenea8
I will find out tomorrow what is all involved in this IV. Hoping for two weeks only as bronchoscope only showed a scant of the pseudonymous as this is the first time diagnosed it. Apparently going on cyprofloxin, and hope to get it eradicated. Just curious of any anti biotic side affects with this one?

@vstankie - What I do for showering with a PICC. Wrap the arm with saran wrap. Then take a fairly wide, light weight, i.e. masking tape around the top edge and bottom edge. I've had 2 PICC lines and two midlines for infusion and the area has never gotten wet.

@fdixon63 @vstankie When I had my PICC line I bought the shower protector from Mightywell.com and it worked great. (link below ). They also have various colored wraps which I used to cover the PICC line.

Thank you everyone for sharing your experience with the IV antibiotics infusions. It has really been helpful and calmed my nervousness down about starting them. I’m curious as to how you know if they are working. Do you feel better, less flare ups, less coughing up mucus, etc,? I have M Abcesses and had a really bad flare up with bronchitis and pneumonia so my Stanford pul wants to start me. I don’t know what drugs they will be. Also he told me the goal is on the IV for a year but do it just as long as I can. Thank you all again for sharing as I don’t know what I would do without this site to talk about BE and all that comes with it.

@patti55 I have had IV treatments 2 different times. 1st time for pseudonymous 8 weeks and aspergillosis 6 weeks. I was very nervous however my ID doctors were great I did the first treatment in their office and was very confident when I left. The whole 8 week treatment was a breeze. Shower sleeves are great, and the net covers the pharmaceutical company worked well to cover Picc line with very nicely. 2nd time was about 8 years after first time and was for 8 weeks again. Only antibiotics. And my follow up bronc in June showed cultures no signs of pseudonymous, only a footprint that I had had it. Hopes this helps.

@brekkit123
do you remember which antibiotic you had for those 8 weeks (a long treatment but sounds like it worked). Was it twice a day or three times a day?

@mjb24 - Thanks for sending this website for PICC line shower protector. I guess you could use it to use when you're not actively infusing. The only thing there would be (since it has to be waterproof) it would sweat.

@fdixon63 It is used only while showering and no you wouldn't infuse while showering.
