Jardiance

I took Jardiance for type 2 diabetes. It was recommended by a cousin at Mayo, in cardiology. I heard its a good med for protecting the heart also. Once my A1C dropped, doctor said to stop taking it. I switched to Mounjaro, which does similar things as Jardiance.

Why did you refuse Jardiance? Makes sense why your doctor doubled lisinopril.

Since Jardiance helps to lower blood sugar and Lisinopril lowers blood pressure, I don’t follow why the increase of Lisinopril, if both conditions need addressing,

My widow maker heart attack was in 2021. I haven’t taken Jardiance yet. They originally wanted to give it to me, saying that it would aggressively help heal my heart.
No, they said they would like me to take it because it would help my heart to pump blood to my organs whereas my EF has dropped from 40 to 37. When the heart attack happened my EF was at 30. I’m also on 80 mg of Lipitor and 12.5 of metoprolol. 81 mg aspirin.
I just don’t want to take Jardiance because of the possible side effect of increased frequent urination, but that must mean it affects my kidneys.
I’m gonna talk to my cardiologist tomorrow and find out what their plan is with me already telling them that I didn’t want to take it. Thank you for your comments.

Jardiance simply makes you pee sugar. Its an expensive drug and does more good than harm. Unless your kidneys are close to failing, than I understand.
Please speak with your doctor, maybe you can be on Jardiance for a short time.

I had a bad experience on Jardience, I was on it for three months. I asked to increase the dose because I was on the lowest dose for the first month within a few weeks of increasing the dose. My legs became weak, and I was constantly dehydrated, no matter how much I drank. Whenever I have a question about a medication, I don’t look up the side effects. I google complaints against. My body overreacts to most meds over the last 15 years. It was very sudden it was like someone flipped a switch. I have met several other people who have the same problem.

Both my cardiologist and my nephrologist wanted me on Jardiance. It was so expensive - and the side effects sounded so awful - that I declined. However, my cardiologist felt it would help my heart pump, and my nephrologist said it was protective to the kidneys, as long as I was well hydrated.

You asked about an alternative to Jardiance. My nephrologist put me on Farxiga. She said Jardiance and Farxiga were basically the same medication. I have been on it for seven months now without any side effects. My kidney function has remained stable, and my cardiologist is pleased with the echocardiograms I have had. Even my pulmonologist seemed happy that I am no longer showing that I have pulmonary hypertension. He said since the Farxiga relaxes the arteries, it has helped that. So, I would encourage you - from my experience - to follow your doctor's advice about taking the medication. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I agree with @bettycll. Take the Jardiance if your cardiologist thinks it will help. I have ApHcm and symptomatic Afib and while medicated for the Afib, I was still having episodes. Because of the Hcm, I have a high grade of diastolic dysfunction so Mayo cardiologist has me taking Jardiance to help with that and slow down Afib breakthrough. It has been a wonderful drug for me. I have had no side effects, only a few very short Afib episodes, and exercise is easier because it has helped with my high filling pressures. So, don't be afraid of it.
