Recently diagnosed. Help!

My son was diagnosed last week with COPD. He is 33 years old. I did not go to his doctor visit with him to ask questions, but honestly don't know what questions to ask.
His results from the spiro test gave FEV1/FVC Ratio 46.5%. The doctor was surprised at this number at his age. Using GOLD, he is classified as Group B and GOLD Grade is 2.
A little family history: his Dad and Granddad both had COPD. On my side, his Great Aunt had asthma.
Does anyone have words of wisdom for me. I am worried and do not know enough about this to know how to help. The numbers seem really bad. Any advice/knowledge would be appreciated.

Find a good pulmonologist and get him into a COPD rehab center.

Tell him not to smoke or vape. And stay away from any kind of fumes. Exercise and do deep breathing exercises, and Pulmonary Rehab is also good.

Greetings worried Mom. I know it is hard at first to know that one person has been diagnosed with copd but with the time you make changes and get advice from the pulmologist to see what kind of medication is best for you son.
I don't know about what kind of copd he has. I was diagnosed with mil emphysema in 2024 and I know how you feel. My condition is copd as well. Inside the condition of copd bronchitis is part of the group of diseases in this classification.
Ask your son what kind of condition he has and then get all the information he needs. In this website and in copd net you can get a very detailed and helpful information that will help you understand more about it. I hope this helps you. Good luck worried mom...and get advice from the doctor he has.
