Blood test to check absorption of meds
My dr is recommending a blood test to see if my body is absorbing the antibiotics I’ve been on for over 4 yrs. Curious if anyone else has had this test done?

I’ve only gotten the 1+, 2 + etc numbers. How do these correspond to colony numbers?
@sarahlynn1960 These numbers relate to the bacterial load, the higher the #, the higher the bacterial load. My results have shown for example 1+ few or 3+ many. I don't know that it directly corresponds to the colony count.
A few weeks after I started ethambutol my doctor ordered a blood test to see how much I was absorbing. It was higher than he wanted so he reduced my dose from 1000mg to 800, then repeated the blood test 2 or 3 weeks later. Said it was okay then.

1 ReactionWhat is the name of the blood panel? I had routine labs run to check liver levels etc when taking the meds but am not familiar with this. Thank you.
@annagh I had my three week blood work done today, so I’m waiting to hear from my doctor, which will probably be next week. I’m having all kinds of side effects from the big three. I am very weak, tired all the time and over the past week. I am breaking out in rashes in several different places on my body. I also feel very clammy. That’s not all, but it’s all I can think of right now.

2 ReactionsI’m so sorry you are having such a hard time and grateful that rifampin is not on my list, just the azithromycin and ethambutol. Dr Winthrop also told me that the reason he prefers daily to 3x week is because, although the body gets the same amount per week, it's less to process at one time.
