Does anyone feel old and useless with age?
Hi, I'm almost 64.. I'm feeling old and useless. My strength isn't good anymore. Like it used to be mainly side effects of meds. My health is poor with cvsd. Osteoporosis, poor circulation, hearing , eyesight, you name it's going. I always took care of myself. Now I've gotten older and everything's wrong, my grandkids don't a want me around and they are little still. No friends to talk with or do things with. Why is it we spend our lifetime taking care of family. Loving friends to end up , old and tired. Useless.

Good morning, Beth (@binw)
I really did appreciate what you said about my attitude, but I felt it was important to tell readers of these posts that I, too, have my gray days. It's tough, isn't it, when you've a chronic anything, to always be upbeat? Just that word "chronic" all by itself is enough to bring you down. I can remember as clearly as though it was yesterday when I got my PN diagnosis and the neurologist said, "No, no, Ray, there's nothing I can prescribe that's going to make it go away." I remember clearly driving home that day––it was a rainy late summer afternoon––hearing those words: "nothing … that's going to make it go away."
You might say that today's upbeat attitude of mine is one of the weapons I use against my never-going-way chronic disease.
Here's wishig you your own upbeat Tuesday, Beth! 🙂
Chhers!

5 Reactions@doccharlie “ Learn a little Python and get a free Claude account and Strat writing code”? What are Python, Claude account, and Strat code?
@grandmira you are very lucky to be able to spend an entire day with your son, and even give him advice. Kids these days feel they know everything and need no advice. It doesn’t take much to offend them either.
@rashida python is a computer program!I think it’s fairly complicated. My brother in law is a storage engineer and has been studying it for a few years.
Claude is something to do with AI and not sure about strat
@ray666 Thanks Ray! PN meaning peripheral neuropathy? I had to look it up.
Best to you, Beth
Hi, Beth (@binw) Don't you hate it when people toss about mnemonics like that? 🙂 I do. I should have thought twice before using PN, especially when I'm not sure the other person is familiar with PN. It might have stood for post-natal nonsense or Peruvian narcissism. (Peruvian narcissism? Where'd I get that room?) Have a wonderful day, Beth! (Please notice I didn't say Have a wonderful WD, Beth! 🙂 )–Ray (@ray666)

So here's something from Cleveland Clinic, likely similar to what Mayo says:
(It's 2 months fresher than Mayo's on Google)
https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/14737-peripheral-neuropathy
Prevention
Can peripheral neuropathy be prevented?
Some of the causes of peripheral neuropathy are preventable. In general, preventive steps you can take include:
Eating nutritious foods
Staying physically active and maintaining a healthy weight
Wearing safety gear to prevent injuries and exposure to toxins
Managing chronic conditions
Avoiding alcohol in excess
.....................................................
So what do I do?
I believe good health practices are good for us in more ways we may ever know.
So for PN, which I have in my right foot, I also bend or massage it while sitting at my computer; or pace while listening to radio (beats watching devices/TV); and of course walking outside my apt when it's cool (finally)!
I don't think it will reverse my PN but hey, bearable pain (tho I rarely feel while doing errands or while walking outdoors for shopping etc is what I'd be glad to have it not get worse.
I'm Closer to 83 and have reduced ability for exertion, but that is OK.
Now I don't know how bad things can get, but right now, I feel 'old age' must have something to TEACH us. It's after all, the final stage in the life. Now, the four time Holocaust survivor, Viktor Frankl has asked: "Are you worthy of your suffering?" I'd to look up if he really said that, in his book, Man's Search for Meaning. That is one thing I do believe strongly gives us courage to get past much hardship. But I'm not sure How Much I'll take without grumbling or..!
