How many of you decided to move permanently to be near Mayo?
Hi. I am wondering how many people decided to move to be near Mayo permanently for all follow up care after transplant? Thanks!

@caligali , Hello Barb! I could come down to Jax and meet you if you'd like. Do you have appts on Tues between 1 and 2? I was thinking that we could attend the lung transplant meeting together. They are a wonderful group of people. Meeting them really helped to alleviate my fears of a transplant. I will private message you my phone number. Please call me so that we can chat more about it.
@caligali I agree, a positive attitude really does make a difference. My family and friends credit my excellent recovery from my liver transplant, and also how well I was doing prior to transplant, to my attitude.
I presume from your name you are in California. My son lives in southern CA (Hermosa Beach) and his girlfriend is a floating nurse at the UCLA medical facility. From what I hear from her it's rank is up there as one of the best in the nation. She loves working there because of what a great place it is, and I suspect she is a great nurse, she has a very pleasant demeanor and I am sure is a welcome addition to any patient's healthcare.
That being said, of course Mayo is at the very top. I was transplanted at Mass General which has been ranked third in the nation, to Mayo and Cleveland Clinic which were numbers 1 and 2. I loved MGH, they were wonderful and my surgeon is top-notch. It's great to see that pretty much everyone who has gone through this process is very positive about the medical care they received at whichever transplant facility they were at patient at.

Dear Connect friends, @caligali, @windwalker, @becky53
I am faraway from you in distance, and in health situation, however as members of the transplant discussion community, I feel a special bond with you. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this holiday season. My prayer is that you are able to experience special moments of Peace, Hope, and Love as you continue on your journey.

Hi Glinda:
We just spent 3 months at Mayo Clinic Rochester. We lived there! We have met many many people who have moved to Rochester because of Mayo Clinic and it's amazing caring teams of the most medical professionals in the world. When we return we drive for
one hour and fly for 2 hours and drive for 90 minutes just to return. Worth the day trip to do so. There is not place like Mayo Clinic
in the world. There is no Connection like the people who work with Connect. Let's stay Connected and continue to spread the word
to the world, so we do not loose the best medical care in the world.

Hi, and I totally agree with you on mayo i lived there for 3 months also after my transplant and have told both my son and daugbter that if I ever move it will be to rochester and thats saying a lot as i am a country girl I love my doctors there and have taken bot my kids there more then once the one thing I like the most about mayo is they never ever give up on their patients they never gave up on getting me my heart for me
coming to the Mayo in Jacksonville from St Louis, Mo and looking to find the best accomadations for 5 days. It seems to be very expensive. Any suggestions?
There are several hotels that give discounts to Mayo patients. We used to stay at the Holiday Inn on Brightman Blvd. By the Town Center. I think their rates go for $80 a night.
Good morning, @dawnm2. I thought that I would chime in because all of my Lung Cancer doctors are in Boston. I live in RI. Mass General Hospital, in Boston, is the 2nd leading hospital in the country. There is no Mayo in New England. My son lives in OR and we gave a lot of thought to moving there, but decided to stay near my hospital. We even thought of moving to Paris!
Our reasons were that my son could pick up and move (although I doubt that Mayo will, lol). Also if I'm not getting proper health care, seeing my son would still be a possibility!
