Has anyone tried the TENS machine for pain?

Has anyone tried the "Tens"machine for pain? There are many kinds sold on Amazon. Dr Ho is advertised on tv a lot. I have a cheaper model and use it on my shoulder and hip but no success that I can notice so far.

These are great tools as I've used one for 20+ years on my back.Although you can get them over the counter, do yourself a big favor an go to a pain clinic and have them prescribe a machine to fit your needs

Basically you want large pads for large muscles and smaller pads for smaller areas. I have been using large ones on neck and torn rotator cuff tendons for couple years. Hey I put off Reverse Shoulder Surgery for that long. But no more excuses time for surgery. But yes Tenns works, get unit you can dial up Intensity and Pulse , slow powerful hits feel good for deep muscles. GOOD LUCK

We will spend anything to stop Pain. How about stem cells, -----PRP used to be free from Medicare, why do we have to pay $500. for it now. Big Pharma controls FDA. They have other important Drugs to research. Stem cells ARE NOT DRUGS!

CONTACT US senators and say WE WANT STEM CELL RESEARCH. My Dr. says w stem cells, in the next 50 years there will be no more surgery. (i want this now)

@mari There are opponents to stem cell research primarily based on religious grounds. It is my understanding that funding for stem cell research has been eliminated at the Federal level.

Does the effect last? Or is it only while using it?

I used TENS for years before neck surgery. It only "works" while in use, but it offered me pain relief at work and after PT until I was "better" (for a while) from the PT. The pain took time to come back to it's full level after I turned the unit off, but it did come back. Later, when it got bad again I started all over. I used this because I had to work and pain pills were not an option. I did this off and on as needed for almost 20 years (2 units over that time) until surgery was necessary. It is absolutely necessary to have a professional show you how to place them for optimal effectiveness and to teach you how strong and for how long at a time to use it. It's a useful tool but like all tools there are right ways and wrong ways to use it. Best of luck!

Yes, I bought a TENS unit at a drugstore years ago, it was under $40 and when it stopped working replaced with one from Amazon around $50. Both did help a little bit with pain in my case on a temporary basis - probably for 3 hours or so - if it was from muscle spasms or neuropathy. I also get migraines and use a device called a Cefaly Dual which is similar to TENS but only for migraines it is placed on the forehead. It's over $400 I think. That device does help with migraine. Hope you get some helpful feedback.

I used a TENS unit for low back pain from failed back surgery. I used it for about 5 years. Then it seemed like my brain did not want to be fooled anymore. It was at point that I had to increase the TENS till I had to chose which I wanted to feel the most. The pain in my back to sting pain I felt from the TENS unit. My sister had one implanted in her back. They did not place it in the right place so they did it over. It still has not be successful plus she has several scars on her back. I know someone who just had one placed for foot pain and thinks it’s marvelous. Makes me think it’s a tossup. Some are lucky and some are not.
