lung cancer rt upper lobe
I am a 77yr old female. I had a ct scan of the lungs and it showed a 5cm mass in upper rt lobe. I am set up for a pet scan and biopsy of the mass. If it is cancer is there hope for me?

correction mass is in left upper lobe not right and it is cancer.
@cglover47 I had my pet scan and it is showing as a cancer, I do not know yet if it has spread. I am scheduled to have a bronoscopy August 26 and that will be the tale of the tape. I am very anxious. Hope to get at least 10yrs of life left. Happy to hear you are well. Prayers for all.

I’m sorry you received this news. Like mamajite said, sounds like your care team is on top of everything!
It’s a scary time for you, I tried to think positive as much as I could, it helped ease the stress. Prayers too, I’ll keep you in mine.

1 Reaction@daisydays thank you
When I was diagnosed with melanoma on the lung, I found keeping busy and for me it was volunteer work, eating more healthy, being positive and spiritually active helped me to be at peace with surgery.

3 ReactionsHi,
I am so sorry to hear your news but yes there is hope.
I had a 1.7cm x 1.2cm spiculated nodule on my lung that was under surveillance for 3 years.
August 2025 after undergoing a CT, Pet Scan and a Biopsy I was told I had lung cancer. (NSCLC) Adencarcinoma.
In less than a week I had my right lower lobe removed.
I am now 12months in remission and I will return next month for my next CT follow up. Take care

4 Reactions@catdoris Hello catcoris, this is a very difficult time for you. I have been there and I was overwhelmed when I was told I had cancer. I am a Christian and so I turned to my faith. I prayed, and cried, and prayed and cried, all the more when I had to learn to live from scan to scan. It has been a very trying time in my life. I was 73 at the time, next month I will be 77. You first asked is there any hope? Yes! Yes! Yes! It has not been easy, but often times our thoughts can drag us down that rabbit hole where we need not be. We can look up, not down, and believe that if God considers the sparrow, he cares for you! Everytime I had a Pet scan, I would talk to Jesus as if he was right there with me....and I believe He was, and is. I am praying for you, that you can find the rest He offers. I have lived for over a year with 3 broken ribs which SBRT radiation caused. In a couple of weeks, I will have another xray to see if they have healed yet??? It has been very very difficult, but so far there is no more cancer. Have you ever seen that picture on the beach where there is only one set of footprints? It is followed up with, "It was then I carried you." It is ok to come out of that rabbit hole and look Up! God Bless and give you the faith and strenth to trust there is Hope!

3 ReactionsOh @catdoris, I'm sorry to hear of your PET scan results, and I'll be interested to hear about the bronchoscopy results too. That procedure will hopefully provide the pathology needed to confirm the type of cancer, which can help drive treatment decisions. I'm sure your head is reeling right now, that's normal. Just try to not stay down that rabbit hole for too long. The waiting for each test in the diagnosis process can be one of the most difficult parts. Try to focus on positives. It's good that they've identified this mass/nodule, that means you can take action and treat it.

1 ReactionWelcome @rj24, Wishing you well for your upcoming CT. Do you notice much impact on your breathing from missing the lobe? Or has your body just adjusted?
