Posted by theodora21 @theodora21, Jul 28 9:36am

i have had dry eyes, mouth, vaginal dryness my whole life. was tested in my 40s for sjogren's, all labs came back negative. I am sure I have it. Cn my dentist do tests or should i go to ENT? i have a continuous swollen salivary gland under my tongue. I am now 70 and worried about complications.

@saffronsass yes it is not uncommon for the Drs to say you do not have Sjogrens. Some tests come back negative.
I know I have it.
It is disappointing to know the amount of patients told they do not have it.
We are our best tool!!! Sometimes it gets hard to deal with but I always say someone out there is worse than me. Chin up if anyone has some new info share it in all ears!!!! 😀😀😀

Just doing more research my favourite pastime ha!
Now this gets interesting
50 years ago at work I lost my sight for about 6 mins I had all kinds of tests with the exception of CT Scan of the head.
Saw a neurologist he said I had soft signs of MS
A year later I had Bells Palsy on the left side of my face.
Apparently there is a correlation with Sjogrens disease. (Affecting the nerves) Sjogrens disease may have been caused by bacteria or a DNA defect that allows the T cells to attack our healthy cells
Another symptom is dry salty scalp and loss of hair.
Don’t tie your hair back use a comb wash hair maybe once a week use a light oil
I found this out because my hair would not suds the salt was preventing it.
I know I go on but the more we know the better 😀

I am diabetic but according to some studies both Metformen and Ozempic help Sjogrens disease
. Ozempic is also used for weight loss
Which obviously drops weight so I will not have high blood sugars
I have just started Ozempic
I need to lose a bit of weight
So we shall see how it helps my Sjogrens (I am hoping)
I’m 72 yrs young haha
My wt is is 264lbs only 5ft 2
I should be lighter 🙂

I had a different experience with Sjogren’s. It was part of an inflammation of my entire GI tract. My front teeth became see through due to lack of saliva. I was a patient at Mayo at the time and tested seronegative several times.
Eventually I was treated with immunosuppressive drug Imuran and all my GI symptoms disappeared, including Sjogren’s.

@jw9 hmm I will try that mouth wash.
So here is something interesting
There is Erythromycin eye point (it did not work for me) dry eyes but when I get a cold and go on Erythromycin tabs my symptoms improve a lot!
I’m on Amoxil right now for bacterial infection of my tooth. As you know our mouths get so dry there is no saliva to protect our teeth ☹️so I am now stepping up brushing and gargling fluoride mouth wash no alcohol content
Any other ideas keep them coming

@lynda12345 My dentist prescribed “Clinton 5000” Anti-cavity Toothpaste” by “3M ESPE”. 1.1% Sodium m Fluoride. Bubble Gum flavor.
Mint flavor aggravates burning mouth symptoms. Sometimes when I smell food my lips burn and I get a metallic taste in my mouth. My sensitive sense of smell complicates the mix.
My hack is changing my diet and I feel burning mouth symptoms are more controllable. No spices, vegetables and proteins cooked in olive oil, roasted, steamed, pan seared. Pasta in olive oil. Low histamine foods. No BBQ. My hot and cold teas are made with dried apricots with no sulfite. Spices in tea bags burn my tongue. No citrus. Lettuce tastes bitter. It’s boring, but I’m not nauseous and hurting. My friends ask me”where can you eat” not “where do you want to eat”. Eating out can be a challenge, if the restaurant messes up I don’t make a big deal. The social experience is more important.
I cook in large portions and freeze most of the food. I used to love cooking and now specialize in soups.

Hey there!
I also struggle with Sjogrens. Please share info or link to studies indicating that Ozempic and Metformin have impact on Sjogrens.

Hi there you will have to google it sorry I go through a lot of research.
Also losing hair is another joy to our Sjogrens
Wash once a week
Alternate during week with just warm water. Use a comb
After washed use an oil I use Argan oil . I found my scalp getting very dry and salty
Women don’t put your hair up with a clip puts stress on the hair follicle thus hair loss.
Although sometimes I do gets hot and the hair needs to go up

One of warnings given for Imuran is for risk of lymphoma and sjogren's has an increased risk anyway.
