Starting radiation for lung cancer: Any tips or words of wisdom?

Posted by blue717 @blue717, Aug 9 10:26am

I start radiation therapy tomorrow for 1.1 lung adeno. 2 weeks, 3 times a week. I can feel the anxiety starting to set in. Any wise words of wisdom? Any special lotions I should use? Any special care for your Skin? My daughter is coming to the first appointment, and she insists she's going to come to all of them. I don't want her to take the time away from her job. Did anyone drive themselves? Boy, this adultier- adult stuff is hard!

My husband had chemoradiation for head and neck cancer. Chemo was very debilitating, radiation was a little easier. Try to focus on the fact that you will be finished treatments in a week, then you heal. Try to eat healthy and think of some reward you can give yourself when this is over, you deserve it!

I am in the middle of 5 round of sbrt radiation treatment for a clinical diagnosis of early stage lung cancer, my first two were last Wednesday and Friday, the last three are tomorrow Wednesday and Friday and fatigue is already taking place, i am a 74 yearold male and the compression belt set at 9, the leg restraints and arms behind my head plus staying very still for 30 mins or more is very tough. Regarding the fatigue and any other side effects, what can I expect this week and going forward, the radiation treatment is for my lower right lobe 1.7x1.3 lung cancer.

@mosconiar you might want to put this in a thread of its own. That way it will get the attention you need.

I had six weeks of chemo (once a week) and proton radiation (5 times a week) concurrently. Fatigue is an issue. Try to do daily walks as long as you can tolerate. I used Cetaphil Advanced Radiance Lotion that was provided by my radiation team and had no adverse skin side effects.
Good luck!

@andycapp Also, I made smoothies with ice cream, protein powder, frozen berries and kale. Easy on the esophagus and really tasty too!
