Best to wait for ENT to look behind your wife’s throat and nasal passages but in the meantime you might try nasal irrigation. It could be several things going on. In my case when I had spring allergies I found NeilMed to rinse out my nasal drip. It comes in a box with bottle to fill with boiled water which you then cool to slightly warm temperature and mix in small pack of saline solution. Just read instructions well. It works great. Aside from that, after a length of time, my digestive system started to act up and became intolerant to acidic foods and began with reflux symptoms. To make a long story short I was advised that reflux does push acid up acid to back of throat causing nasal drip and constant clearing of throat from irritation. It’s hard waiting for specialist’s appointment here. In Delaware it takes months. Anyway good luck and hope your wife gets relief soon.

I'm so sorry that your wife is going through this. My mother had pulmonary emphysema and also had a nebulizer. What your wife is going through sounds exactly what my mother went through with the coughing and mucas and spitting it up. It's good you are seeing another doctor but also perhaps you should get a second opinion regarding a pulmonary doctor. I don't understand why the doctor took her off of the nebulizer. Those really do help. My husband had lung cancer and the nebulizer also helped him with a similar condition.
Possibly a humidifier might help her breathe better. Or if nothing else put a pan of plain water on the stove and let it boil. The steam from the water sometimes helps in those kinds of conditions. This is an old family recipe from the 1930's during the Depression. It was used when someone was ill and congested. Doctors and medicine were expensive and they often didn't have the money so they used what they had.

Prayer also helps. God made your wife and he can heal her. I'll say a prayer for her also.
I wish you both the best.

I have a chronic cough which is the result of a constant post nasal drip. (I have had it for years.) Nothing seems to help. I have seen my regular MD, a pulmonary MD, Allergy MD with study's done, and an ENT MD. I have done all kinds of medications & multiple nasal sprays & saline washes, used a Neti pod and use a humidifier at night time. Nothing seem to help. I can not be with out a tissue because my nose drips almost constantly. Sometimes lately I have had an unexpected nose bleed. I am out of ideas for who can help me with this .

Went to see the ENT doctor he put a camera probe down wifes nose and throat all looked ok nothing found, given prescription for Benzonatate (Tessalon Peries) take for two weeks, if that dont work try Claritan for two weeks...if that dont work try Mucinex dm....and thats it bye....
Let me start in the begining, July 2024 the mucas started we went to pulmanary doctor had ct scan found mild bronchiectasis, tried to get a mucas sample but didnt work to much spit in it...doctor said use nebulizer, saline salution, she used that all through 2025..we decided to see an infectious disease doctor, that was waste of time. Then we went to another pulmanary doctor closer to home, that got knowhere...all through 2025 weight loss, then hospital reaction to the saline etc immune system failed...i will miss out the next five months...month ago another ct scan, no nebulizer used, back to the first pulmanary doctor, same no mucas to test watery...doctor said her lungs were ok?? and sent us to the ENT...he should have sent her to that doctor in the begining...on the new meds two days...i am convinced its her lungs...still coughing and white throthy mucas, anything in the air causes cough very sensitive...got to be lungs

@uksparky ,
I'm so sorry that things aren't working out better for your wife. You mentioned at one point that Mucinex was suggested. My husband had lung cancer and was terribly congested. He used Mucinex and it worked wonderfully! You can get it from Amazon. My husband had a really bad night and ordered Mucinex for that night. Amazon got it there in 2 hours and by morning my husband was all cleared up and no more congestion. He continued to use Mucinex when needed for the rest of his life. It got rid of the congestion and also there started to be less congestion over time. My husband died of lung cancer at age 83 two years ago. However, I feel the Mucinex helped to make his last days much easier and possibly even prolonged his life somewhat because he could breathe better.

Just ask God for help. He will be there for your wife. I will say a prayer for both of you.
I wish you the best.

That is too bad that you have a chronic cough and a constant nasal drip! That must be difficult to cope with. I have a sore in my nose that has been there for at least 40 years. My doctor prescribed Mupirocin 2% for it. It helps and the sore will go away for a while but then due usually to strong odors or air pollution the sore returns and I put the Mupirocin on it again and again it will go away for a while. Also I put Mentholatum in my nose every night before I go to bed. This helps me breathe better.
I hope you can find something that will work for you.
