No oxygen all day

Posted by tia8marie @tia8marie, 4 days ago

I was told months ago that I have stage 4 COPD. I don’t use oxygen at night. Maybe periodically during the day. I haven’t used it at all today. It is possible I don’t have stage 4? I meet with a pulmonologist soon.

@mic1953 I did that test and turns out I was stopping breathing 19 timers per hour. I’ve advanced from a cpap to a bipap. With the bipap I average about 5 times per hour. Mike at cardiac rehab said he was stopping breathing 82 timers per hour per hour!! Geez.

@tjphillipp oh my . My pulmonologist has a sleep clinic . He tried to get me to take a test but , I can’t make myself go to his center . Maybe a home test . I wake up at night breathing through my mouth. Dry mouth . Cannula in nose blowing it dry . I will talk with him about it next appt . I had no idea that people could stop breathing that many times an hour . Yikes. I see now why it can be so damaging . Blessings for all , Crystalena

@crystalena you can do the home one that they’ll supply you. It’s really simple!! Stopping breathing is not good. It’s a wrist band with a few things and an app. Once you wake up let it download on the app you throw the device away. Please get it done!!

@mic1953 I had one PFT - I was never given the results . It was ordered because they were trying to verify my need for oxygen. I had been put on oxygen by an ER and held overnight for a c scan the next morning . A doctor came in later that morning and confirmed she saw emphysema in my lungs . I went home with a couple tanks and was on it 24/7. I needed a home concentrator. Before they would prescribe one, they convinced me I needed that test . The machine they required me to use for that test , in their healthcare system , was over 100 miles away .. I went by car to that hospital . It was a machine that had a chamber . I sat on a stool and blew into a device on an air hose . That was it . So then I left . They got to use their fancy machine. To the tune 🎵 of over 3k. / and I got my home oxygen concentrator. Yes , I am jaded . I wish all of you another good day . Peace , Crystalena

@crystalena strange because no matter what a pft test shows, oxy is only prescribed if you need it overnight OR you failed the 6 min walk test. Pft has nothing to do with if you need oxy.

@tjphillipp to find out if you need oxy at night your doctor orders an overnight oxy test. it is like our oxy finger things we check our oxy with. it is connected to a device. you return the device to your oxy provider and get results in a day or two.

I had no idea I had a problem until I had an overnight sleep test in the lab. Results, I stopped breathing 57 times per hour and my lowest oxygen reading was 69. I am currently on Bipap with 3 lpm oxygen. They are not concerned whether I use 1 lpm or 3 lpm oxygen at night just that I use it. My concentrator is at the other end of my apartment so unless they invent a remote controlled concentrator (would be great!) I can not lower the lpm without desaturating into the 70's by the time I get to my bedroom and go to bed.

@lizjlb well I know. The example I was making was the healthcare system here. They will tell you anything to get you to use a machine they can charge 4 figures for .
