Pain at night
I started this journey in mid June and am currently on 12.5 mg of Prednisone. For the most part, daytime is fine. However, when I am still for a stretch of time, like nighttime sleeping, I get stiffness and pain in the upper arms once again. I find I have to make some movement with my hands to 'awaken' the arm muscle and reduce any pain. Is this normal? Or is Prednisone supposed to take care of pain all day and all njght?

I'm still having pain wakes me up at night. Just diagnosed and started 15mg Prednisone as pain has been brutal for 4 months before we knew what it was. 15mg hasn't gotten all the psin but has got most of the body pain and almost all the other symptoms. We raised it to 20mg about a week or so ago but still not stopping the bad pain at night in upper back "girdle" area, left shoulder, arm and hand. That pain wakes me up every night and the arm pain stays with me almost all day then lessens. We tried splitting it next. 15mg am, 5mg 1pm or so. Don't take late in day is suggested to me. I couldn't sleep AT ALL for the 2 nights I took it. I stopped because there's no change in pain waking me or all day and I'm already so exhausted from the past 4 months I can't. So, we're going to try 25mg am, for 2 weeks. If that doesn't help she wants imaging of my shoulder to check for other injuries.
It's different for each person from what I've been reading but I do suggest you coordinate everything re your Prednisone with you Rheumatologist before doing anything so they know exactly what you're taking. Hope you feel better too. Blessings.

I had a very mild case of PMR and only hurt while in bed! As soon as I got out of bed, I was fine! It took me about a year to taper off of 10 mg. of prednisone, but I occassionally think that my bilateral shoulder pain might be PMR instead of sore muscles. I've been off Prednisone for years. This is weird stuff, but I may ask a rheumy about this if I ever see one again.

1 Reaction@janiceem Once you were out of bed, how long did the pain last? Did you have any pain during the day after you were sitting still for a while?
@s1m My pain disappeared as soon as I was vertical and it never bothered me during the day, even after sitting. I don't know what it is about being horizontal, but all of my problems are worse when I am laying down! I also have vasomotor rhinitis that only bothers be when in bed. Go figure.
