Looking for alternative treatment for anxiety disorder.
I'm 58 an Army Veteran and have been suffering with severe mental health problems since 1989. Been misdiagnosed over and over. Thousands of pills. Of at least 20 different From thorazine prolixin haldol currently gabapentin and Cymbalta and my anxiety is still it's just off the charts so I'm exploring anything desperately looking for something that will work I'm tired of suffocating.

So sorry for how you feel, and thank you for your service. People who have not been there and know it first hand really can't help, as you may have found out. Do you have connections with others in your situation who can hang in there with you and help?
On these chats people say micro dosing works. You might look into that.
Good luck🙏

Have you had genetic testing to see what antidepressants may work with your body chemistry. It is more readily available. Just a thought. Hang in there and fingers crossed something works.

2 ReactionsSorry to hear you have been struggling for so long with little relief. Here are some ideas off the top of my head as someone who has also struggled with anxiety:
1) therapy such as CBT
2) neuromodulation device such as Alpha-Stim; I’ve heard these are very popular at the VA so maybe it would be easy to get covered by insurance for you
3) natural supplement Silexan, which is pharmaceutical grade lavender oil that you take as a capsule - shown to be just as effective for anxiety as prescription Rx, with no side effects to speak of. Some evidence for efficacy in MDD as well.
4) yoga, meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, diaphragmatic breathing - any of those sound doable?
Keep us posted and hope you feel better soon.

1 ReactionThe anxiety attack that chocked me in predawn hours some ten years ago came out of nowhere I thought but the emergency doc told me it was due to anxiety -- something impossible I old her because I am retired and working on what I wanted from the one life I still had. Still fearing the prospect of going to sleep and choking in the middle of night, she offered if overnight stay in the hospital I wanted. Of course I slept soundly and was sent to see my doc. Still unsure, I asked if there's a med I can have to bring my breath back instantly, she handed me some but also offering professional CBT help as well. I said, 'I know CBT and can do myself so let me try First.' That was 10+ yrs ago. But I had to accept that in life sometimes years of one's hard work no one even want to know about it -- it was about how healing the whole person helps to heal the part.
I believe our illnesses often have a psycho-social component, the part WE can play in our healing. It's often available to us, no matter how dire our situation.
CBT (or DBT) is essentially Thinking things thru and accepting what is and is not in our control.
It would be great to see how it turns out for you. I Wish you well,
