Has anyone found a treatment that helps with peripheral neuropathy?

Posted by bigjohnscho @bigjohnscho, Jul 1, 2025

I suspect that everyone on this forum has been searching for a medication that helps their neuropathy and even though you no that all the internet claims are false we continue to waste hundreds of pounds. Desperation is a powerful force. Has any one been fortunate enough to find a genuine treatment. I just can’t believe that there are so many awful people who prey on our vulnerability and knowingly orchestrate such elaborate scams.

@karenjaninaz Have you tried alpha lipoic acid 600 mg once a day - I have sensory idiopathic neuropathy and helped me 90%. Get it at health food stores. I could not take gabapentin or Lyrica - the fatigue was too great. Good luck.

@gnocchi Sound too good to be true. What were you pain level before and after taking this supplement?

My biggest problem since being "diagnosed" with IPN has been my burning and/or itching feet when I lay down at night to sleep. I have 3 different creams that I rub into both feet and that helps a lot! What I have discovered through a vascular surgeon has been a god send! He told me to get a wedge pillow; place it at the end of the bed; and, place my feet at the end of it! I use a 10" wedge pillow (Amazon) but you can get them at different heights. My feet are now above my heart and my blood flow doesn't "pool" in my feet. May not be helpful to many but if it helps just one of you it's a win!!

A zero or anti gravity adjustable bed frame makes a HUGE difference for me. It raises your feet and your head so, in our case, my wife and I don't need pillows between our knees and under our feet. We had read that the astronauts slept in zero gravity and the adjustable frame does it for you.

I have had neuropathy since at least 2019. I never had any pain, just tingling and cramps. I take nortriptyline 25mg 1X day. Most of the symptoms have dissipated to a manageable degree. I still have cramping in toes, usually when I'm pointing my toes like when putting on socks.

Is Mayo or any Ivy League Medical School currently involved in research for a Peripheral Neuropathy Cure?

I read through the comments here, and find that I am in agreement with one thing that helps: Exercise.
I walk my dog. It got hot and she didn't want to walk much, and I noticed the pain and needles increased quickly. I now use an indoor treadmill.
I also started acupuncture. The research - as far as I can see - says it CAN help SOME people. I think that it has helped a bit, but I am not sure. And some insurance covers it to some extent.

@japanjim I saw a post online that suggested to apply pressure on your feet with your thumb roughly one inch below your toes in the center. I do this daily as well as putting magnesium on my feet and wrist area (which is also painful) and it helps me sleep at night and not wake up with horrible foot pain continually.

Welcome @2018194707, Lots of research going on but probably not as fast nor as much as we patients would like. The first link lists some of the medical schools doing research.

After trying many supplements I’ve found that 2 capsules of Neuro Salt each morning before food stops the pain and burning in my feet. It does not contain the mysterious pink salt mentioned in the ad. It does list passionflower, marshmallow root, corydalis powder, prickly pear extract and California poppy seed as the contents. Not evaluated by FDA. Buy it from the manufacturer as there could be fake suppliers out there. It works for me!!!

I discovered a supplement called PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide) after reading Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum’s book “From Fatigued To Fantastic.

I was still in a lot of pain taking Gabapentin and an opioid pain reliever. Once I added the PEA, my pain level improved greatly. I highly recommend anyone with PN check it out.

@johnbishop it appears that there is research on issues relating to neuropathy however it all appears to be “ongoing” with yet no conclusive answers.
