Anyone got high blood pressure? What do you do to lower it?

Posted by BoneHead @stsopoci, Aug 8 7:44am

I have tried the last couple of years to get my blood pressure down. I don’t smoke or drink alcohol. I exercise each day and eat good food. I have to be on meds that help keep my blood pressure down but I’m still in the 140’s. I used to be in 150’s. I’m talking with my doctor on Monday for more suggestions on what I should do.

@thekennedys I do easy living and eating and fun things all of the time. The medical people that I have worked with have put me on what should help and I guess that it at least keeps me below 150. I’m trying to go down.

Getting my weight down helped me a great deal, though mine has never been very high. Still, we wanted mine down since I do have Type 1 diabetes. For many years mine was 100/70. Then, it went up. I now take one half of a med per day and it’s back around those numbers. My mom used to take 2 different pills for hers that was quite high. Her doctor said taking 2 different pills for hypertension is not uncommon.

I tried more propranolol yesterday and it lowered my blood pressure to 130’s. Both my sister and brother take propranolol to lower theirs but I’m going to check with my doctor before I do anything.

How old are you? Age is a risk factor and BP tends to rise as we get older and our blood vessels lose elasticity. I find it incraesingly difficult to keep my numbers down, despite a good diet, exercise and following generally accepted lifestyle recommendations. The things that have helped me are: meditation, leg squats…and medicines (diuretic/chnnel blocker).

78 - yup it gets harder the older you get but at least we are alive at 78 because many of my classmates are gone.

I’m not advocating this for anyone else, but I don’t add salt to any food. I get sufficient amounts though.

What you probably don't want to (again) hear. Exercise daily and eat a diet that gets your weight to a lower level. I hear it almost daily and do my best to comply. However, 4 months of Orgovyx gave me permanently damaged hormones (I'm next trying Enclomiphene after TRT failed) and the result is 10 lbs. of visceral fat and weakness. I'm pretty good with the daily routine exercise, but struggle to run a 5k and, usually, have to settle for 15 mins./mile walking. I could do much more if I had to and I know my BP would drop like a stone, but, it's a balancing act.

My BP was constantly around/above 140. I take 3 different meds (for more than 20 years). I've been on Mounjaro for the last 6 weeks and my BP has normalized to around 120. I'm slowly cutting back on BP meds. I work out and am active.
