L5 S1 Fusion: what were some of your Symptoms?

Those are good signs, unfortunately it is kinda wait and see process.
6 weeks is very early in the nerve healing process.
I don't know what it was like or how long it was bfore you had the surgery but if the nerve was compressed for awhile it may take awhile.
I was told up to 12 months

My foot dropped on my left side after hip replacement. I did get my foot back to normal, but it took a lot of PT in the water. I have every disc in my back herniated or damaged in some way. All from arthritis, in my 20's I began to have bouts of pain, swelling or pain. I was still working fulltime as a single woman. Began surgery when I was 50 and continued until 3 years ago. In all I have had 7 joint replacements, all independent sites. I am 79 now and trying to not lose my ability to walk, etc.. Keep trying get PT and expect it will take a long time to comeback.

What can occur with L5-S1 happens as a result of the surgery and that is the section immediately above the fusion is also affected and that section then “moves down” enough that the nerve is still compressed all over again. The answer is a revision surgery with more hardware(pins,screws,rods, and treated 2 x 4’s :). That is even riskier than the precipitating surgery-what would go wrong if revision was done? So,you ask,what have I done ? Resignation to limitations and the old “live with it” sad advice. I can do it but it is a life changed and sucks joy out of me. The pain is not terrible at all so fortunately I can go on for now and hope it does not worsen and revision is advised. Make certain you ask your surgeon what might occur above the surgery and below it before you go ahead. You will be told it’s somewhat unpredictable but at least you might hear information you otherwise would not.

Symptoms for me were massive spasms that would literally knock me off my feet. Sharp pain felt like a mule kicked me in the back. It’s been 40+ years. Still remember the intensity of pain.
