Has anyone else had emgality injections for migraines? Side effects?
I have been on emgality injections for 3 months about to do my fourth one. I have had some side effects that my neuro dr says can't be from the injections. This is the only new med I have started in 4 months. Long story short, I have been very fatigue, high blood pressure, dizzy spells, ringing in the ears, and almost like sinusitis infection. About 2 weeks after first injection dr put me on antibiotics and steroids for a severe sinusitis infection and double ear infections. I felt better till I got the second injection now I have the same symptoms all the time some days or worse than others and some days are good. I also have back pain along with hand swelling for about a week to 2 weeks each time I get injections. My health insurance is very strict and my family dr has to refer me to specialist. What should I do or are these side effects normal. Yes my migraines are so much better than they were but I don't know if I can live with the side effects.

I am still taking Emgality and it worked great for about 5 months now 18 months later I have more migraines than ever. No side effects.
I start Vyepti infusions tomorrow. You might try it. Apparently in clinical trials less than 2% of more than 1100 people stopped using it due to side effects. I will know more tomorrow.
Ask your Doctor about it.

1 ReactionI'm so very sorry that you went through all of that so many times. But I don't think it's a side effect of being injected with Emgality. Did you discuss all of these symptoms with your doctor? There's many other options you can try for your migraines.
I do the Emgality once a month, I have Ubrevly that I can take twice a day two hours apart. Daily I take Topiramate 200 mg twice a day and Keppra 750 mg twice a day because I also have Trigeminal Neulraga which is very painful.
My son used emigality for 3 month as well he didn’t experience any side effects and I’m so sorry to hear that you are experiencing quite a bit , but ultimately he stopped the injections as the constant daily pain of electrical sensations all around his head just lingered on with no relief
When it comes to medication side effects, I take the clinical trial results, sponsored by the drug companies, with a grain of salt. I inquire on ChatGPT or Gemini for "real world side effects , not clinical trials". There you can see what really goes on with drugs and what is reported with real users. In fact, sometimes AI quotes this very site. By the way, read about migraine injections in the real world. You will be surprised that "thousands" of users report severe anxiety, and panic attacks.
