Managing BP Spikes While Starting Lisinopril

Friends, I need some advice from anyone who has dealt with high BP.I started lisinopril two days ago because my BP was around 165.
For the first three days I was on 10mg, but my doctor said I could increase if the numbers stayed high.Yesterday I went up to 20mg, and this morning at 8 AM my BP came down to 135.
But by noon I got a headache, checked again, and it had gone back up to 165.
I took another 10mg.
By 9 PM it was 158, so I took another 10mg.So today I ended up taking 40mg total.
My doctor told me to increase if it stays high, but I’m not sure how much is too much or how to plan it.

Has anyone gone through this kind of BP spike and dose adjustments?
How did you manage it?

I haven’t experienced that, but I’d check back with your doctor. My mom took a while to get her BP meds gradually adjusted. She kept a log and checked her BP everyday in the morning. Weeks later her doctor might order an adjustment, depending on the results. He said some people need two different types of meds for BP control. My mom took 2 for a while.

Lisinopril was the first blood pressure medication I tried. It is a first line medication, but it doesn't work for everyone. For me, after taking it for a time my blood pressure would spike. Listen to your body, and if the medication is not working, ask your PCP to try a different class of drug. Everyone's body chemistry is different, and it's often necessary to try different drug classes (ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, diuretics, calcium channel blockers, beta blockers, alpha blockers, alpha receptor agonists, vasodilators, etc.) to determine what works for you. In my case, I had to try ten different medications before I found the right combination that controls my blood pressure without unacceptable side effects.

I was placed on Lisinopril in 1984 and except for a dose lowering once I’m still taking 10mg.

Nebivolol was the game changer.

Curious, have you tried eating beets or the super beets supplement? Its opens up blood vessels, hence lower BP.
