Rectal Prolapse: What are my options?

@summergirl62 I'm 72 and have the 3 prolapse issues. The most urgent is rectal prolapse. I have other health issues I clouding COPD, diabetes, chronic pancreatitus. I'm beyond scared to het the surgery even for one prolapse. But up until 2 days ago I was able to press the prolapse back in and it would stay for hours, never forget the entire day. It becomes extremely painful and tender and nearly.possible to sit. I purchased a donut cushion that helps relieve some of the pain, but not always. I have pain medications but they can cause greater constipation, so I've been taking advil and Tylenol which provides minimal relief. I saw a rectal surgery specialist with excellent reviews. She suggested physical therapy. The problem is I'm on 2.ltr. oxygen 25/7 and loss my breath quickly with any exertion..I dont think I can do the therapy. I've done some online exercises but can't do very many of them. And at this point I don't think it will help my situation. When I saw the dr. The prolapse wasnt fully extended like it is now. I plan to call her Mon. unless I can't bear the pain without going to the er. Any advice or experience is appreciated. Its heartbreaking to see all of these suffering women.

Thank you for your response. I haven't met with my surgeon yet but after reading on-line about my problem, I decided I wanted the more permanent solution. I am 72. Do you think the surgeon would consider this an "advanced age" as you put it? I hope not. 

Which type of surgery did you have, through abdomen or peritonium?

@traveling - How are you since your 2nd repair? I will be 80 in 2 months and have a lot of other health issues too numerous to list but include Crohns, vaginal and urethral atrophy and prone to UTI's. Do you think I would survive the surgery you had as the urologist had told me never to sit in a bath, sitz bath or otherwise and I read you are told to use a sitz bath a couple of times a day. I am also allergic to all antibiotics except the ceclor and leviquin families. How long is the recovery? How in the world are you able to keep your BM at just the correct consistency - not too soft and not too hard? With my IBS/IBD I'm back and forth constantly now. Would like your secret on that one.I Also, since the prolapse has given me fecal incontinence I hav heard that the surgery can make you permanently incontinenct and I am trying with the help of PT to overcome that. I have no idea if PT works either.
