Radiation to the chest with osteoporosis: Anyone have spine fractures?
Hi
Prior to breast cancer I had one fracture in my spine that was in 2022 then 3 weeks after my radiation finished in 2024 I had two more fractures in my spine. In the last week the whole thing has refracured And I'm sure it's from the radiation I would like to know if anybody else with osteoporosis has had this happen. So now I'm trying to get urgent appointments for an MRI a referral to my endocrinologist and a referral to a spine specialist for kyphoplasty

Are you taking an OP medication?
@tillymack
Hi yes I have a reclast infusion once a year it's been every year for 4 years.
I was stable until this happened. Working out regularly three times a week doing weights and treadmill not hard just gently my bone density every year hasn't gotten better and hasn't gotten worse. I just had my bone density last Tuesday the day my back fractured that was a nightmare so Thursday hopefully I can get a urgent referral to my endocrinologist
Do you have severe osteoporosis according to the DEXA scan? I also had a Reclast infusion annually for 4 years, prior to Reclast I took Evista for many years. I switched to an endocrinologist after my osteopenia drifted into osteoporosis territory while on Evista. Now I've circled back to osteopenia. I decided to try HRT rather than another year of Reclast or another OP drug. I won't know if it's keeping me stable until I have my next DEXA scan in several months. I hope you can see an endocrinologist soon and find a good path forward.

I don't believe my osteoporosis was severe I was stable for 4 years until radiation 2 years ago. I didn't take an AI after my breast cancer because I was stage zero and I'd already had fractures so the oncologist didn't want to put me at a higher risk for my fractures. I'm at a loss right now. My bone densities haven't changed since I've been on reclast they've not gotten worse or better. It will be interesting to see the endocrinologist because I just had my bone density a wk ago Tuesday. I think my only alternative is prolia. I can't take evenity . I have tried tymlos. I had a TIA in 2017 so it limits what I can take.
@sue417 Could you share your most recent DEXA scan scores?
@tillymack
