I am such a loser. Please help me stop doing meth!!!
I feel so horrible I feel like my life is a lie because I have been lying to most of the people in my life about my drug addiction. I have gotten past meaning things in the past 10 years. I recently got married 5 years ago and have been cleaned the whole time except for the last two years. My husband knows about last year but he does not know anything about me doing it again this last 6 months. I feel absolutely horrible. He is a wonderful man and would do anything for me. But I am just so scared to tell him that I've been lying to him for almost 6 months now again and I don't even know how he does not know. My life is really good. we have no money issues. and he's a wonderful person. and I'm a really pretty lady if I may say. I just feel hopeless because I'm so scared to go through that mental health part of it because last time I stopped for a week it was really bad and I went crazy. Does anyone know anything I can do I need help I can get. Thank you so much. I'm new to this group.

If you really want to stop, go to an inpatient treatment. Meth messes with the brain. Working with and having friends that have been addicted, I have seen people stop. I never did meth, but am recovering from other substances. over 8 years now. It may be uncomfortable at first, as you know, but you can do it with the help of others that also are working on stopping. A week or two of feeling like losing it is nothing in comparison to losing everything, because that is where this will lead. I doubt I have to tell you that. I think it is great that you shared here and want you to know that people on here are rooting for you. Get some help either through a treatment program, inpatient (where there will be no temptation, in your presence) or NA or some other group of people that can relate to you and the addiction. Hang in there! I promise, you can do this. Sounds like you have a good life and can have an even better one without the poison.

2 ReactionsI am sure you are aware of addiction clinics. They are private on the scence they will not send any info anywhere you do not agree to Drs etc home to your phone or address etc. there is Alot of medical treatments and please do not ever feel like prescription medicine is also addiction as it is not. Telling your husband well the only way to do that is either by starting celery diary before you go into it that you are in love with him and thankful to him. You have addiction issues he is aware of and you do not want to be separated from him at all . That being said you are terrified right now because for 6 months something has pulled you back to the drug of your mental need. Drug addiction is not like other addiction because of alters the brain itself. Leaving your brain no way to create the chemicals you need in the right way . Now meth used to mean Methadone but now it means crystal meth so I do not know which one you are taking, that ring said either one started anywhere from just wanted to check it out to I was in the worst me tal stated anyone could bring due to situation I have lived through and this stoped them from being at the for front at first. Many of us eve n got there from Drs prescription deorong on the drug.
Now a days the drugs are way more potent die to where they are coming from or if someone altered them prior to selling
The biggest things is to get to a Drs place or toba clinic that will help prevent your body slowly from a full withdrawal at first. That can take 14 days to 14 years depending on the drug and the person etc.. If you are able to tell your husband you are his he is yours and you do not want to lose him or yourself and tell him what caused the initial addiction to start in the first place and educated him but giving him all the paperwork and info you can find on how the human female body etc deals with the drug in the rain and what it doensto the mind and body and especially why you ended back on it. My Best educated guess is that either what started it all way back ( the initial reasoning) or the inability to keep the addiction withdrawal symptoms down or gone caused you to restart. People beliv6 the oh wait 13 day to 60 days an you will be done .That is not true for anyone. It can take 2 full years orore for the rain to get normal ish and not fixing or dealing with the reasons that started you there in the first place . The brain is a big and strong thing but when drugs prescribed or not stop your brain from producing their own needed chemicals it will cause the only alternatives to start it isn't just drugs that become an issue in this cases . I wish you luck,

3 ReactionsHello @jahappygirl, Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. We are really happy to have you here.
The idea of stopping a substance and going through withdrawal is a very valid worry. One that keeps a lot of people using a lot longer than they want to be. Both @diverdown1 and @bgpage provided you with solid ideas including treatment and assistance from medical providers.
Here is another resource for you- Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) https://findtreatment.gov/locator. Using this tool, you can locate treatment options/services near you.
Every time we take a few steps back, we are able to learn and grow from that experience.
@jahappygirl - When you stopped using meth in the past, knowing what you know now, what are some ways you can better prepare for what resources you may need this time around?

6 ReactionsIf you're referring to methamphetamine and not methadone, I have experience quitting that. I did a lot of meth in my life.
Lets clarify this, I did a lot of drugs in my life. The 3 that were a habit were alcohol, nicotine and meth, in that order of difficulty to quit. Alcohol and nicotine were more difficult because its in the media, its behind every cashier counter at a convenience store. You cant escape being exposed to either. My stepson died from an overdose of fentanyl and methamphetamine. We never did it together but as a child he was exposed to it by his mom and I. We snorted and smoked it, but never shot up. I spent nearly 20 years on and off using meth. Ive had friends who led double lives while keeping it secret from spouses and family. Ive watched them lose houses, cars, careers, businesses they built and their lives. When it comes to meth, only you can rescue you.
But you'll have to listen to others because the meth in you lies.
Meth tells you that you can wait another day to quit. It tells you after this little batch runs out, there'll be no more. Its telling you now, dont tell your husband because he'll make you quit. You may think this about saving your marriage, but does a real marriage have this much deceit? The only way you'll save your marriage now, and quite possibly your life, is to get help immediately.
My father got his doctorate in theology by writing and publishing a book on premarital guidance. You're already married so Ima gonna give you some post marital guidance.
Tell your husband today, how you contacted help for your addiction. And remember you are not alone in this. You are absolutely 100 percent not alone. Believe in yourself.

4 ReactionsAll what I have read about from credible sources, CBT is one thing ONE can start Anytime ONE decides -- it is basically sitting face-to-face with You-Addicted facing You-the-One-WantsToBe. It is basically Thinking Through CLEARLY about WHY you use Meth. (I have used CBT MYSELF to get over my one-time serious anxiety that blocked my airways in the early dawn ~ten years ago. But I had to accept sometimes five years of full-time effort for a good cause can disappear with zero result.
Good luck w/ the life that awaits you!

Meth Addiction Treatment
Meth addiction is one of the hardest drug addictions to treat, but it can be done. If you know someone who can’t control their drug use, ask for professional help.
People who use meth often need a professional counselor or drug treatment program to help them get better.
Treatment options for meth use disorders may include:
Detox programs. There isn’t a drug to treat meth. But you can take medication to get through the withdrawal process. Detox usually happens at a hospital or substance use treatment center.
Inpatient rehab. You’ll check into a medical facility to recover. These stays typically last about 30 days, but the timeline is different for everyone.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). This is a type of talk therapy that helps change how you think and act around drugs.
Motivational rewards. This is a type of behavioral therapy. You get money or other good things to not use meth.
Support groups. You may find it easier to stop using meth if you talk to people who know what you’re going through.
