@deecey Oh ny goodness - I just googled some this, too, and I can see why they're scary! Many of the photos I saw were intra-operative images that most of us undergoing the procedure never see, and may I add never feel as we're so well anesthetized (usually with local anesthesia that works just fine). These types of photos can definitely look gruesome but they're prior to closure with sutures, or in some cases when the wound was larger, a skin graft. I had that when I'd undergone a wide local excision on my face near the nose on the cheek. The healing did take some time but within a year and a couple of laser applications I was the only one who can truly tell I'd had such a large incision....my wrinkles are no longer than any scar! And, like @gingerw. I'm more grateful to have had my skin cancers discovered and treated than anything else.
For what it's worth, my 42 y/o son had a consult for a BCC on the right side of his upper nose last week and will be having a Mohs procedure next month. Can you let me know what happens and what you decide at your consultation?

1 Reaction@grammato3 Whenever I have a MOHS procedure where I cannot watch what they are doing, I ask them to take photos with my phone, to be able to see the site. Usually they comment that few people want to see that. I do! Besides, in a perverse way, it makes them more careful in their work.

I will let you know what I find out at my consultation. Wishing your son a good outcome on his surgery.

1 Reaction@tpbcc13 good advice above. I had Mohs surgery on the side of my nose about 20 years ago right where it creases at the side. Due to it’s position my doctor performed a flap procedure which took longer to perform and healing took longer as well, but in the end, there was no visible scars. Just follow post-op directions and you will be fine. Aside from vanity, I still went to meet clients with a bandage on side of nose. 😂

I did not have a consultation with the Mohs surgeon, but I am having surgery on Aug.14th. I am going to a Dr. that my daughter has been to. She had a very good outcome. I am still concerned about the scar and hope I will not be too self conscious.
@deecey: Personal recommendation is very helpful, especially coming from your daughter. As for any potential scar, please try not to judge too much early on. Although Mohs *can* cause some degree of scaring, this definitely fades with time. This article, which includes a step-by-step guide to Mohs, explains more about the procedure and what you may expect afterwards: https://www.mayoclinichealthsystem.org/hometown-health/speaking-of-health/mohs-surgery-to-remove-skin-cancer.
I'm having upcoming surgery myself soon but I'm going to "stay tuned" to hear about your outcome!

3 Reactions@curio yep. I will be going to work with both sides of nose bandage. See, if I would have planned it better, could have been a mummy by Halloween 🎃😅. I also have temple, between eyes on forehead. One on neck and one inside nose just at tip. All being done in August. Thanks for encouraging words as well. Vanity is gone ...just want this over 👊

Sounds like a lot to go through Hope everything goes well. My daughter has had around 6 Mohs done on her face. If you did not know the scars were there one would not notice them. I think we all think the worst is going to happen.
