After bilateral prostatectomy: Still hope of recovering erections?
64 years old. 12 months post bilateral prostatectomy. I had no issues with erections before. My the is 2 with a 20 mg dose of tadalafil. Is there still hope of recovering erections?

There’s a 2023 presentation out of Stanford University that’s titled “Penile Rehab: Optimizing Recovery of Erectile Function after Prostate Cancer Treatment.” They talk about things to do before and after surgery (including injections):
@beachflyer thank you for your input, makes me feel better as I am getting implant 17th of August 2026. I have used Trimix for over 2 1/2 years now but the injection are getting more and more painful, last night was extremely painful not sure why but looking forward to the implant.

Excellent information again thank you for sharing.
@jeffmarc I don’t like taking the Cialis medication so which pump would you think would be the best?
Hi,
How long ago did you have surgery? If it’s only been a few months your body is still recovering. If it’s been a few years probably not much improvement. Nerve damage takes a long time to recover. I like Jeff’s comment, erections at the push of a button, kinda cool👍.

A penis pump will not allow you to get an erection strong enough for Intercourse. It might work if you use Viagra.
A surgeon suggested going to the Menmd website, to get a quality pump, they have 3 to choose from $99, $199, and $299 which is battery powered

@beachflyer what are you referring to as a traction device
Penile traction devices such as RestoreX stretch penile tissues (tunica albungenea) that has shrunk from lack of natural night erections and subsequent fibrosis (scarring) from lack of blood flow. There are cheaper units than RestoreX out there and they can all work with consistent daily application.
My implant Urologist (Dr Dashen Patel, UCSD) recommended traction for several months prior to the procedure.

How long ago was your surgery?
@brianjarvis
Brian, thanks so much for sharing this presentation. Oh how I wish I had seen this before my treatment or soon after radiation. Sadly, my urologist, my oncologist and my radiation oncologist failed to address these issues. I have/had given up on any sort of erectile functioning; and I'm only 57 (diagnosed at 56). Although this presentation suggests I should have been far more proactive than I have been, maybe there's hope? ADT sure sucks the desire out of me so penile function hasn't been a top priority. Again, thanks Brian Jarvis for sharing this informative lecture.
