How long does it take to see the results of a PSA test usually?

I don't know about that hospital specifically, but if it's the hospital lab performing the actual test (rather than shipping it out), it could be very fast. I go to my hospital lab here in Ontario, and my ultrasensitive PSA test usually pops online in MyChart about 2 hours after they draw the blood.

On the other hand, people here in the forum who go somewhere that ships the blood to a third-party lab (sometimes across the country) have occasionally reported waiting a week or longer for results.

My husband went to his hospital to do uPSA couple of times and the wait was day or 2 - NEVER came the same day. The results came as "slow" as in WalkInLab , BUT, perhaps SKH is more expeditious : )

@surftohealth88 I'm sorry to hear that. I used to wait a couple of days, too, until I realised that I could go to the hospital clinic instead of the private lab I was using (privately owned, but still funded by OHIP), since the cancer centre is affiliated with the hospital. At my hospital clinic, someone comes every hour with a cart, chats with the phlebotomists for a couple of minutes, then wheels the blood samples down the hall to the lab, so there's no shipping delay.

Some U.S. hospitals belong to chains (or HMOs, or whatever they're called), so they might have one lab serving multiple hospitals for "efficiency". 😕

I get my results either late in the same day. I had the test or early in the morning the next day.

I do not know dear North - this is cancer center of excellence we are talking about, and one would expect expedited results 🤷‍♀️ but as always , I expect too much form this world in general 😂

I'm in the Penn Med system. Blood draw @ 7 AM - PSA, CBC, & CMP are done in house, and results are posted by noon. Total T is sent to Quest and takes a little longer.

I get my lab work done at a COE, and I purposely drive just over an hour to do so, just so I can get my results back quickly, nearly always same day, and frequently they come in while I’m driving back home.

Ever since the ACA directed that patients have access to their test results and not have to wait and see their provider, I generally get my PSA test either late the same day or early the next.

Of course, it comes with a disclaimer, "these results have not been reviewed by you care team..."

I think, thanx, now I know how to prepare for our consult vice walking in blind and having to figure it out.

I tend not to send messages through the portal asking my care team about the results.

At the cancer center I go to, PSA results always show up in about an hour.

It might depend on the backlog at Sloan. (With it being only 7 weeks since surgery, don’t be alarmed if there are still some PSA fragments detected.)

I get my PSA done every 3 months when I get my Lupron shot the results is available to me the next day.
