Anyone use acupuncture to help relieve neuropathy pain? Did it help?

Am considering acupuncture to relieve pain of PN. Does anyone have experience with this approach?

My PCP suggested going to an acupuncturist for the neuropathy in my legs. I found an MD who was trained in China. He's very well regarded. I've been going twice a week for almost 4 months (30 sessions). Most of the sessions were not covered by insurance. Sad to report that it's done nothing for my neuropathy. If anything, it's worse than when I started. I had my last session a week ago. I'm going to start physical therapy in a couple of weeks. Also may try myofascial release massage therapy which has helped in the past. Haven't been able to get an appointment with a neurologist. The neuropathy was the result of back surgery a year ago. If anyone has had experience with myofascial release therapy helping with neuropathy please let me know.

Thanks for the information about Scrambler Therapy. It sounds promising. Has it helped your neuropathy? Did you find someone in your area or did you have to travel?

@lesx - Hi...I live in NYC and discovered a small clinic in Clifton, N.J. run by a father and son. The name of clinic is calmaretherapynj.com . What surprised me is the fact this treatment is FDA approved and has been around for around at least 15 years. Most doctors do not know about this treatment!!! Okay, it is 10 sessions...two weeks....(week-ends off). I took a car service there and another to take me home. Each treatment is about 30-35 minutes....Pads are placed on the area of pain...mine were on sides of face, forehead and sometimes neck. The sensation is like a very light buzzy feeling...totally painless. I sometimes dozed during a session. It is "out of pocket" and I don't think covered by insurance. The price runs around $3,800 or so....It's been very effective for me. I had some other issues that triggered my TNP a month or two later and I went back for two "booster" treatments. Dr. Jay Coney is whom I worked with and he is absolutely lovely. His patients come from all over the world and I guess stay at a local motel, hotel.....I also think treatment available at The Mayo Clinic as well. I hope this helps....and I do recommend the treatment......

Thanks so much for describing your experience with Scrambler Therapy. There's a practice south of Sarasota that does Scrambler Therapy. I haven't run it past my PCP yet. Sounds like it works for a high percentage of people with neuropathy!

Hello @bie, Welcome to Connect. You are not alone with having neuropathy from chemo treatments. Wondering if you might find the following discussion helpful to connect with others and learn what has helped them.

Has your doctor or care team offered any suggestions for treatments that might help with the neuropathy?

First, sorry to hear about your PN pain. My PN is primarily in my feet. Over the last 10 years I've tried 2 different acupuncture treatments. I did about 6-7 treatments each time, several years apart. NOTHING!!!! No relief. I found both were caring and professional but unfortunately, nothing positive happened. I wish you the best and hope you find relief somewhere!!!!!

@duchess926 Hi, sorry for your neuropathy. I tried many things including scrambler therapy done by a podiatrist. It did nothing for me and I've tried about 10 visits. About a year and a half ago, I had a spinal cord stimulator implanted. Unfortunately, that hasn't worked either. It doesn't stop the PN pain from getting very painful and it doesn't lower the pain when it gets painful. In fact, many of the programs adds a layer of pain. Nothing has worked and it's really depressing. Hope you find something.
