Breakthrough bleeding on HRT
I was fully in menopause and began HRT. Was still experiencing night sweats so Dr. upped the estrogen dose (kept progesterone same) multiple times over months as night sweats continued. Changed medications multiple times. And now, 2+ years later, I’ve started having breakthrough bleeding that lasts sometimes one week, sometimes, two weeks. Had an ultrasound and all seems fine but bleeding continues every three weeks or so. Dr. Said sometimes breakthrough bleeding can occur on HRT but it should level off quickly. But, this has been going on for the last year or so. What is happening?

Have you had a chance to ask the doctor directly what can be done about the break through bleeding since it persistently continues?

1 ReactionHi I have been on HRT as well, after 3 months on it I had an incident where blood gushed out of me. I had a vaginal ultrasound and they said I was fine. I decided to get off HRT and seek something more natural so I began to taper off slowly. Two weeks into tapering off I started to bleed again, not as much but enough for me as I am 67 years old. I notice that no one on this site is giving any answers to these questions, how disappointing. I pray that these ladies and myself find answers to our questions. sometimes it feels as if we women get the short end of the stick. Be well ladies

I’m in the process of looking for my answers. Went into menopause in 2020 and then on HRT in 2024. I’m on 0.06 estrogen and 200 mg progesterone. Began breakthrough bleeding a few months after starting and it hasn’t really stopped. It comes and goes with no rhyme or reason. I do have a very large fibroid (13 cm) and look like I’m 5 months pregnant. I thought that was the cause but I’ve been referred to an oncologist. I’m very scared! But none of this bleeding began until I began HRT. The bleeds can be very heavy with clots as well. Also, my uterine lining is normal at 4 mm. I pray everyone finds answers as well. I don’t want to stop HRT. I finally have my life back because of them.
