Orthopedic surgery at Mayo Rochester: What are hospital rooms like?
What are the rooms like? My husband and sister will be rotating nights with me. Are the rooms nice? Will there be a pull out bed or recliner in the room for them to sleep on?

St Marys or Methodist. Decent rooms at Methodist. Food was tasty. Also lots of heparin shots.
Back in 87 my hand surgery was at St Marys. 2024 kidney surgery at Methodist.

Welcome to Mayo Connect. I have been a patient at St Mary's multiple times this year. Found the rooms adequate. They are all singles and have private bathrooms. The ones I was in did not have a coach/bed combination, and there was no recliner I would want to sleep on. There might be an option for a roll-away bed, depending on the size of the room and if OK with nurses.
Is there a reason you think someone needs to stay with you overnight?

I am updating the previous post. I have a friend in St Mary's right now, and his room did have a pull-out sofa. So the furniture will vary by room. His room is much bigger than the room I was in. He is in a different building at St Mary's.

In 87 I also ended up with a roommate who had hip replacement surgery. Don't know if the still double up.
@bajjerfan
Mayo no longer doubles up patients in rooms. At least since COVID.
One thing unique is that the beds have alarms. So, if you are told not to get up without first calling the nurse, and you get out of bed, an alarm goes off. It is a safety thing to prevent falls.

1 Reaction@rianjohnson587, in which building will you have surgery? Is this your first visit to Mayo Clinic in Rochester?
@roch July 2022 I had a single. Loved the big window, watched the helicopters coming with people? organs for transplant? several times a day. I thought the rooms were rather large, private bath, comfortable chair for day sitting. No roll away bed, husband stayed at hotel 0.2/5-minute walk away and I was awake and aware from the time I was brought there from ICU/Recovery.
