I'm a grandpa!
In 2021, when I was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer in my mid 50s and given only a few years to live, one of the things I had to come to terms with was that I'd never know my grandchildren.
How wrong I was.
He was born yesterday, and has my real name (not "North" 🙂) as his middle name. I held him today, and thanks to the huge recent advances in managing metastatic prostate cancer, it's no longer foolish to hope that I might even get to attend his high-school graduation some day.

I love being a grandparent and during this phase of my life- like an old car getting some parts replaced and others discarded, it is nice to have something beautiful in my life. I babysit three to five days a week and look forward to it. It can tire me out but I would not trade it for anything. It also challenges my incontinence ( again a trade I am happy to make)
Q: What do grandparents and Grandchildren share??
A. Common enemy

4 ReactionsWhat a great story. Congratulations on the birth of your grandchild. I don’t think there’s any reason you should expect anything other than dancing at his wedding. Best of luck..
