Venlafaxine for vestibular migraines
Has anyone tried venlafaxine to help decrease the frequency and severity of vestibular migraines? I also have some intermittent anxiety and thought it might kill 2 birds with one stone.
I have only taken my first dose of 37.5 mg and I feel terrible, I'm having vertigo, nausea, diarrhea, and anxiety.
I have xanax to help with initial side effects but hate the thought of taking the med again tomorrow. I'm hoping the first dose was the worst.
I'd love to hear some positive outcomes.

I am taking Venlafaxine since over 30 years, yes starting with this medication or trying to quit does a few side effects I experienced like Dizziness and vertigo also but only for a few days. It’s important to stay close in communication with your doctor if side effects don’t disappear.
For me it is a life saver, handling my depression.
I have no side effects otherwise.
Do yourself a favor and get a second opinion with your symptoms to be sure this Medication is the right one in your case.
Good luck and keep us updated.

Thanks for your response. I am very sensitive to meds and started on the lowest dose. I will definitely contact my doctor if it gets worse or lasts too long.
Glad to hear it is helping you.
@rainerhansi’m trying to find help with all over body nerve pain. My pain doc gave .5 hydrocodone at night tramadol every 5 hours. Does nothing! Severe head pain I cannot take that amount of pain. I went to ER. Found other problems. lol but nothing for nerve pain. T-Boned by semi.. Don’t know what to do.

Sometimes doctors prescribe a medication because of its side effects.
So it can be possible that it helped some people with head pain.
Trying it will find out but slowly, very slowly begin with and you will be fine…
I am just wondering that you didn’t get one of the newest migraine medication, hydrocodone isn’t a medication for taking longer….

1 ReactionMy head pain is from a car wreck. My neck and spine are all screwed up. Occipital nerve is so painful glasses and hearing aids hurt if I wear them to long. Pain doctor doesn’t believe my pain is real. He was arrogant and rude! However if a med for migraines might help , I would sure try it. Sometimes I do have big circles of white light like a migraine at times with vomiting.
I was on venlafaxine for about a year, for my bipolar/depression and here is my warning. If I missed a dose in the morning I was in the ER by the afternoon - non- stop violently sick (vomiting), a head-exploding migraine (worst ever) & dehydrated from the constant vomiting. After the 3rd time this happened, I begged to be taken off. And you have to be very slowly weaned off this med. That was my experience.

That sounds awful. I hope you managed to get off of it and are doing well.
After only one dose of feeling awful with severe vertigo, nausea, and increased anxiety, I know it's not for me.
I am waiting to discuss other options with my doctor.

Thanks!! Yes, I weaned off with my psychiatrist's instructions and I never want to see it again, lol! I was living in constant fear of missing a dose for some reason, like if I had an accident or just forgot. It was awful. Please keep seeking answers and don't let anyone push you into something you're not comfortable taking. Speaking for myself, I've been so anxious to be well, and I'm the type of person that follows my doctor's advice. But this particular medicine absolutely had to go. I hope you find something that works for your situation. And know that at least one person out here cares, what happens to you! ❤️

You sure want to look for another doctor,, sometimes a great family doctor can help you too….
Did you try to calm your head down with relaxing exercises like Meditation or Muscle relaxation by Jacobsen?
Oh thank you. I never thought of meditation. Right now my pain level is 8. I ‘m glad I looked at this.
