Hello @debraann, sorry to hear that you need a lobectomy. Is the surgery in response to a lung cancer?
If yes, join us in the lung cancer group, where you'll find many members that have had a variety of lung surgeries.

I am from Ethiopia i had right lower lobectomy before 2 years but still cough is happen repeatedly. Is it normal?
Welcome @zewducrawn, Mayo Connect is a group of patients that can offer their own experience. We are not medical experts or staff. Coughing after two years has to be difficult for you. Have you had a scan of your lungs recently, or asked your doctor about the cough?
@lls8000 yes i know i want to share the patients experience same to me.

1 Reactionhi, i just had lobectomy, is coughing up brown or bloody mucus for a week now have someone experienced it here?
@mypinkheels25, I hope the surgery went well. It can take some time to heal. Have you asked your surgeon's office if this is normal at this point in time post-surgery? A week of that, can't be easy. If the blood is ever bright red, consider an emergency department visit.
Are you still looking at radiation? or now that you had the surgery, are you done with treatments?
hi, it's sometimes brown or red. i think i'm doing more treatments after surgery.

1 Reactionhad upper right last july. vats (2 incisions). scare barely noticeable now. difficulty taking whole breaths for couple months. better with time. no noticeable problem now - virtually normal breathing . cough lasted 3 months then disappeared.
I had a rml lobectomy in 2022 via robotic surgery. I spent one night in the hospital and then home. All went very well. I have severe emphysema now and did at the time of surgery but did not require supplemental oxygen after the procedure. pretty good, I'd say. Don't remember much discomfort... my go to was motrin
Good luck to you. You'll be fine.
