Gut-kidney connection

Is it true that managing gut bacteria can help people with CKD ?

I've never heard that but I do know it is a factor in discussing the autism spectrum. So maybe it is a part of good health. I've always tried to manage my gut heath. All 4 of my children have gut issues.

@nycmusic An interesting concept! Our bodies are indeed miracle machines, so many systems needing to work together in a cohesive fight for good health. One thing out of balance can throw other things off-kilter!

Here is an article from UC Davis that you might find interesting. I certainly did!

Putting "gut microbiome and chronic kidney disease" into Google there was an AI generated response that gave some information.

@gingerw thanks again ! I asked my doc about probiotics and she felt I didn’t need them now…I have had a great recovery from CRC, my gut working amazingly well consistently- she doesn’t want to do anything that could affect that when it’s working well… so, it comes down to being sure that the foods I eat support good gut health., good overall health…i have learned a lot about helping my kidneys from this site, from you and will continue to apply it.

I do think my gut is not healthy. Maybe leaky? I've heard of that. I try to get enough fiber. I need to eat more fruits and veggies. Get sick of salad. No red meat. My gut is shutdown right now. Radical nephrectomy due to a malignant tumor 4 days ago. Anesthesia and opioid not the best for digestion. Eating ok. Drinking because I gave to. Eventually, I will go. Lol gas is moving through. I will read about microbiome. Good luck guys and gals!

@quirky9 wow, I hope your recovery goes well- that’s quite an operation…just be very kind and gentle with your gut…get back to eating very gradually…. Hydrating and carefully moving around at first… movement signals the gut, really helps, even soon after surgery…before long, you will take short walks, then a little longer, etc. actually, there is a lot of variety among healthy foods, great veggie combos, salad variations, etc. ….if you are on a kidney diet, it is more challenging, but quite doable, especially if you get creative with allowable foods….wishing you an excellent recovery and enjoyable meals.
