I do 18 hour fasts routinely but sometime throw in a couple of 16 hour fasting days for when I want to eat out with family. You might find this related discussion helpful also.

Before I learned about intermittent fasting none of my doctors ever mentioned the metabolic syndrome they just kept telling me I was in the pre-diabetes category. There are a lot of connections to neurologic and other conditions with the metabolic syndrome. Here are some of the references I've found on my journey.

@johnbishop Thank you John! I will look at the references you posted!!! I went almost 48 hours and I felt so much better. I did eat a small meal yesterday, a salad and some spinach. I did not want to eat too much. I am going to have a salad today with some tuna. I look forward to reading more about it.
