BCG and UTIs: Anyone else get urinary tract infections?
I had one BGG treatment and have been unable to continue because of persistent UTIs. It's one antibiotic after another and none help. Anyone else in this situation? I am an 86 year old male and want to get on with my treatment.

@mochat - Hello and thank you very much for your advise and information that you also experienced UTIs after chemo. I was taken by surprise.
I am waiting for the urine culture to see which antibiotics to take and will ask my urologist about the Hibrex, which is more appealing to me.
Thank you again and best of luck for your journey.
@hummelb99 yes it’s a minefield this journey.
But…..after the chem/doc treatments and some maintenance doses, I have been cancer free now for just over 12 months.
All the best 😊
This is music to my ears and what I am hoping for.
Thank you for these encouraging words.
May I ask, if after your initial chemo treatments and first your cystoscope, was it a BL blue light cystoscope, or just a normal one?
When I requested the BL cystoscope, I was told, it wasn’t the protocol.
Happy Weekend
I’m trying to get BCG treatments done as well. I’ve had 2, should be 3-4 but I’ve had 2 confirmed UTI’s now and yes it’s postponed my treatments as well. Also I have scarring in my urethra that has caused great difficulty in inserting the catheter, and causes me discomfort/ trouble with urination. I need get these treatments done as I also need to have open heart surgery for a large aneurysm… too many serious complications all at once.
@hummelb99 it was a Blue Light. My Urologist only uses this one now as it is more thorough.
May I ask which oncology clinic you go to?
I will approach my oncologist once more, since she does the cystoscope and my urologist does the inbetween and follow up visits.
Thank you for your reply.
@squilliam60, it is hard to deal with multiple serious conditions. Am I understanding that your oncology and cardiology team want you to complete the full course of BCG before surgery for the aneurysm?
Have you been able to clear the UTI to get your third BCG treatment?

1 Reaction@colleenyoung my cardiothoracic surgeon originally said he wanted me to finish BCG treatments, but the aneurysm is now at a point that I have to have it fixed, or nothing else will matter. I see my urologist tomorrow for this scarring in my urethra, the thought is that the scarring/stricture is causing the uti’s because it’s become so difficult in inserting the catheter. He’s “popped”… it twice now, seems to come back. Just a bad situation as I feel like ok… which one will get me first! I’m hoping he can remove the scarring tomorrow, I can get maybe 2 more BCG treatments in before the open heart surgery. Any suggestions?
@colleenyoung yes I think the uti’s are gone, it took Fosfomycin to do it, which I think then killed the good gut bacteria in me, I took prebiotics… seems to have worked.
