I take gabapentin for insomnia. I've been battling insomnia for 30 years. Gabapentin is effective. If I'm having a bad night, I'll take .5 mg Klonopin(clonezepam) with the gabapentin and sleep really solid. I used to take Ambien, and Belsomra but would only sleep for 4 hours a night. While on Active Duty Army I was on Ativan(lorazepam), and it worked well, but can be habit forming.
I take 300mg for nerve issues. Have burning pain in my legs and sometimes whole body burns.
Takes a couple of hours to get relief. Prior planning when to take!
@sophiek I have had very different experiences with Gabapentin, the drug, which can have severe withdrawal, and GABA the OTC supplement. It is so common now for people to use "gaba" as short for Gabapentin that no one online anymore seems to know GABA is not the same 🙁
As a public service, could we all try to not use "gaba" in referring to gabapentin, a pharmaceutical which is actually a controlled substance in some states? It is so often confused with GABA, the OTC supplement. Thank you. It makes it really hard to search for important reactions
@linusrox1 Your right they are two very different things Gabapentin is by prescription and GABA is an over the conter supplement. I've had both. My neurologist put me on gabapentin few years back. I couldn't take caused panic attack but different for everyone because my sister was able to take. We saw same neurologist and we both have MS. When I tried GABA nothing happened no effect at all will not waste anymore money on this.

2 Reactions@jdennis78 Yes I had the same experience. But the question was about an over the counter supplant called GABA. We see people sometimes shorten it to gaba but it make education about drugs so very difficult.
