PRP (platelet rich plasma) injection?

Posted by lgerkin @lgerkin, Mar 3, 2021

Has anyone had PRP injections? I have upper hamstring tendonitis and recently had a prolotherapy injection, which hasn't seemed to help, so I'm looking at other options. I know they're expensive and not covered by insurance but if the success rate is high, it's something I might consider. Thanks!

@dove123 It is unless you have to do many treatments over different areas with Shockwave. I have seen packages in my area about as much as one PRP. I have thought about Softwave and/or Shockwave but also worry that if I have declining collagen in tendons, how long with this treatment last. How long will PRP last? Both are a crapshoot but trying to weigh the options.

@loyd1957 I go for shockwave #7 on Thursday. It has helped me be able to use my foot but when I'm on it any length of time, then I have to get off my feet. But at least the debilitating pain is not there. I wonder too about damage to soft tissue that the xrays would not show. I byapssed the cortisone shot option because it's just a temporary fix, then you can rebound worse than ever once the shot wears off. Apparently, pf is quite common because everyone I mention it to either has it or has had it. We went shoe shopping today and the mgr of the shoe store said he's been dealing with it for 10 years. Oh great. : (

@tova Did you have any tears or just worn-down tendons? I have an appointment to discuss PRP but my pain on outside of hip stopped, now it is more internal sharp pulling pain. Wondering if just tight muscle pulling from lack of strength or just Gluteal Tendonopathy. Did you have guided imaging? Just trying to have questions ready.

@nme1985 I have done five or six PRP injections in different parts of my body. And they have helped tremendously did two injections in my left shoulder, which I’ve been told for four years that I need a shoulder replacement and they have helped along with going to physical therapy I live in Spokane, Washington and use Clinic 5 C.

@debks Are they as painful as I have read on many forums for PRP? Some say no and some say they could pass out.

@dove123 Thanks. Good information and I am finally at either PRP or Shockwave or Softwave. I was even considering low dose estrogen, but low dose may not help and at 69, they may not even let me.

What is most painful for me is the shot to numb the area before the PRP goes in. I remind myself the pain lasts as long as the needle in injecting, which isn’t long at all

Afterwards, it can get painful for a day or two. That can be part of the process. Never strong enough pain for me to not get PRP. It works for my problem, which is something called sinus tarsi syndrome, in my ankle.

@healthseeker77 with those great results for an extended length of time, you’d think the PRP injections would start being covered by insurance. Because PT is not inexpensive, but of course Medicare covers that immediately.
I’m 72 years old and I’ve had injections in five different places in my body and it’s amazing how the PRP is helped. I’ve been told for four years now that I need a shoulder replacement because it’s Bonnes on Bonnes but the first day that I had the PRP injection, it was amazing. I could actually lift my arm up into the air.
I use Clinic 5 C in Spokane Washington. They will be moving their facilities completely to Coeur d’Alene shortly. But look them up and follow the doctors. They also have Instagram pages that you can follow
