PRP (platelet rich plasma) injection?

Posted by lgerkin @lgerkin, Mar 3, 2021

Has anyone had PRP injections? I have upper hamstring tendonitis and recently had a prolotherapy injection, which hasn't seemed to help, so I'm looking at other options. I know they're expensive and not covered by insurance but if the success rate is high, it's something I might consider. Thanks!

Anyone used Chiropractor for Bursitis pl?

My Highmark insurance covered it but three times made no improvement to inoperable painful knee. If you are considering it, please make sure the doctor is very experienced in doing it. Maybe helpful to watch you tube videos. I did so I knew what to ask for. Good luck to you and I hope if you go ahead, you will get relief.

I received low dose radiation for arthritis pain in both my shoulders. It is used at Cleveland Clinic for pain relief. There is information on line regarding how it is given and how it works on inflammation. There are others facilities that administer the treatment. Take care.

I did have PRP on the back and on the knee. Has worked very well. My back has been great for over 5 years and i do have prp on the knee every year. Saves me from doing TKR.

@cobweb how many PRP’s did you do for your back or your knees. I did one PRP in my knee and 2024. And I felt like they just put a placebo in there no pain relief at all and I’m not even bone on bone

@corky21 I had one placed in my back. Had L4 and L5 problems. They showed me how to stretch out and i do this every am. No problems since and that was 10 years ago. With the knee i do it every year. Takes a few weeks and then i am good to go. The question i have is how does your Dr administer the shot? Regentative med has so many people doing it . Like stem cells that are sold out of a box.
The DR said i have a lot of arthritis in the knee along with being bone on bone. I do not play tennis anymore but i play a lot of golf, do a lot of gardening, and do biking. I am now 85 and would never go thru a TKR . My Dr takes 19 vials of blood out and spin it etc and then after a wait it is injected.

i do see that professional sports is using it, plus dermatology offices to grow hair for women. I use it every year for the knee

I had a PRP injection for golfers elbow, worn down tendon. I had it in Nov and couldn’t even bend my elbow for several weeks. It was very sore for a month and there is still
pain when I straighten it out. I did therapy and have started to play tennis and golf again but still hurts. I let it rest for 10 weeks, that might not have been long enough. I am not sold on the process and had to pay for it out of pocket. Will be going back to the ortho doctor because I feel like there is a tear.
